What we know so far about Marvel Studios’ new series “WandaVision”

Marvel Studios’ new series “WandaVision,” will premiere January 15, 2021, exclusively on Disney+. The new show revolves around Marvel Cinematic Universe characters Wanda and Vision. Although not much is known about the storyline of the show, it seems it will be a continuation of their storylines after Avengers: Endgame.

What we know about WandaVision

According to Disney+ “WandaVision” is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The new series is directed by Matt Shakman and Jac Schaeffer is the head writer.

Vision was killed by Thanos in the Avengers: Infinity War. Which makes us question what state of mind Wanda is in.

Multiverse?

Details about the show’s storylines have been scarce but the emerging theory is that Wanda is trapped in some kind of alternative reality. Perhaps it exists only in her mind or perhaps she is somehow being manipulated the way that Mysterio manipulated Peter Parker’s reality in Spider-Man: Far From Home. When phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was slated to arrive right after WandaVision. Leading to the theory that it would be Doctor Strange who would help rescue Wanda from this alternate reality.

The multiverse was not just a throwaway line in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It’s real and Doctor Strange will be heading there in his second film. Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Doctor Stephen Strange to a film that will take place years after Avengers: Endgame and the aforementioned Spider-Man: Far From Home. And it was announced that Elizabeth Olsen would return as Wanda Maximoff.

New photos released

New photos released give us a look into what we can expect from the show. The show is a nod to sitcoms of the past. You can guess the sitcoms by the era and the fashion. During the D23 Expo in 2019, it was announced that Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms) would join the cast as the nosy neighbor and comic relief.

Based on the photos it is safe to assume that WandaVision is traveling from decade to decade. In the photos above Kathryn Hahn’s character is wearing some notably 1980s era attire. Teyonah Parris (Pictured below) will be portraying Monica Rambeau. Monica is the now grown-up daughter of Maria Rambeau. Maria is the best friend and confidant of Carol Danvers from the movie Captain Marvel.  Based on the photo of Monica, we presume they will visit the late 1990s or early 2000s.
