Missy’s back at Big Finish for a third volume of stories! Michelle Gomez returns to the role of Missy alongside Rufus Hound as the Meddling Monk. This set of full cast audio dramas, entitled Missy and the Monk will be released in September 2021.
Though there are no plot details yet, the three stories included in Missy and the Monk will be as follows: “Body and Soulless” by James Goss, “War Seed” by Johnny Candon, and “Two Monks, One Mistress” by James Kettle. No casting apart from the two leads has been announced yet, but fans of (spoilers!) Dalek Universe may be particularly intrigued by that last title. Time will tell!
Following up on the ending of the last series of Missy stories, the Monk has joined Missy’s misadventures. Not exactly willingly on the Monk’s part, though! At the tail end of series two’s “Too Many Masters,” Missy modified the Monk’s TARDIS so that it’s only operable when both are present. Of course, she is working on a way around that. But for now, he can’t leave her stranded anywhere. And she can’t simply kill him and take his TARDIS for her own!
Producer David Richardson had a bit more to add on what fans can expect from these stories:
“I love working on Missy. It never fails to put a huge smile on my face – the scripts are always wickedly funny, and Michelle never fails to take them into even funnier territory. She loves to play with the dialogue, and the results are always glorious. And, the icing on a wonderful cake, this time we have Rufus Hound in every episode as the Meddling Monk, Missy’s own companion. He’s in for a hilariously miserable time.”
Missy and the Monk will be the character’s third series of regular adventures, and Missy’s fifth box set appearance with Big Finish. So far, Missy has also appeared in The Diary of River Song series 5, the fourth installment in Ravenous, and the special release Masterful. I’m so glad that Michelle Gomez seems to love returning to this role so much! She had this to say about her return to Big Finish:
“I just think Missy’s delightful. She’s always finding everything so fun and she takes such joy and pride in her badness! She has an easy laugh, she’s mischievous – I guess there’s a lot of me in her – and maybe I bring a bit of that to the table. I just love having fun with her!”
Out in just four short months (September 2021, that is!), Missy and the Monk can be pre-ordered now from Big Finish’s website. Get the collector’s edition CD for £24.99 or you can get a digital download of the stories for £19.99.
