2025 may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean quality game release are too. December sees the release of one of the most anticipated games recent memory, some exciting expansions for new games, and a few surprises. Read on for Temple of Geek’s Months Game for December 2025.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Dotemu of Streets of Rage 4 fame is back with Marvel Cosmic Invasion, an arcade-style beat-’em-up featuring our favorite assembled heroes. Play as iconic characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Black Panther, Storm, and more in an action-packed romp around the Marvel Universe. Check out our hands-on preview here.

Sleep Awake
Blumhouse Games has made a monumental splash in the survival horror genre since it started releasing games last year, and Sleep Wake is poised to join the ranks. This tense and atmospheric horror games from some of the industries best creators will be right at the top of horror fans’ lists.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
It’s finally happening. After almost a decade of development hell, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally coming out in just a few short days on Switch and Switch. Samus is back in first-person action, this time with new psychic abilities and . . . a motorcycle? We’re hyped nonetheless, as this is one of Nintendo’s biggest games of the year.

Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows
Elden Ring Nightreign release earlier this year, and is one of the year’s best multiplayer games. With a handful of classes to choose from, there’s plenty of replayability and fun with friends. The Forsaken Hollows is the game’s latest expansion, adding two new Nightfarer classes, two more third day bosses, and more.

Octopath Traveler 0
One of my biggest surprises of the year, Octopath Traveler 0 aims to blend the console gameplay of the first two games with mechanics pulled from the mobile title, Champions of the Continent. It’s bound to be another meaty JRPG, so make sure you block out time for this one.

Toxic Crusaders
Beat-’em-ups are having a hell of a month. Toxic Crusaders from Retroware takes the iconic B-movie and turns into a sidescrolling action game, much like Marvel Cosmic Invasion and countless similar titles.

Skate Story
Sam Eng’s Skate Story is another one we’ve been waiting for awhile, and it’s finally releasing just over a week. In it, you’ll skate around the underworld as glass-made demon as you try to fulfill a contract from the Devil. With an incredibly unique art style, this is one I’ll have my eye on once it drops.

Storm Lancers
Storm Lancers is a co-op Roguelike with Metroidvania elements. With a vibrant comic book art style, fast-paced gameplay, and endless replayability, this one is perfect for some couch co-op games during the holiday break.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the latest in the Legends sub-series, and after releasing just a few weeks ago is already getting its first DLC drop. Mega Dimension will expand the story, introduce new Pokémon to catch and areas to explore, and of course give us some new Mega Evolutions.

MK Legacy Kollection Deluxe and Kollector’s Editions

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection launched digitally back in October, but if you’re patient and prefer physical media (like me), the Deluxe Edition is out very soon. It comes with a case, SteelBook, the game on disc or cartridge (not a Game-Key Card if you’re on Switch 2, which is nice), a magnet, and so much more.

Terminator 2D: No Fate
December is seeing the release of a bunch of great retro-style games. Terminator 2D: No Fate harkens back to the Contra days, with 16-bit graphics and chaotic run-and-gun action that mixes both retro 2D and 3D elements for an awesome looking time.
