MTG | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mechanics, Art, and Pizza

Stepping away from the Lorwyn Universe, the Magic | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set brings players to the urban landscape. This new set embraces a comic-book gaming atmosphere and buffs up the ninja power. Featuring strategic mechanics such as Sneak and Disappear, which encourage players to amp up their combat combos.

This set exudes a stylish comic-style vibe, with artwork that occasionally features epic borders, like the sewage-themed borders for Bebop & Rocksteady. There are 54 art cards with a lucky chance of pulling a gold-stamped artist signature or Planeswalker symbol. Special art cards can be found in the Collector Boosters, Draft Night, and Pizza Bundle. Kevin Eastman, the original illustrator of TMNT, lends his incredible talent to the set’s headliner card and to each of the four main Turtles’ headliner cards. Kevin Eastman headliner cards are available only in English in Magic: The Gathering | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collector Boosters of any language.

Cowabunga! Turtle-Tastic Cards!

Keep an eye out for Silhouette Cards showcasing fan-favorite characters in the veil of shadows. Non-foil and traditional foil borderless silhouette cards can be found in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, each Turtle represents a color that reflects their personality. Leonardo, the leader, is White mana, while Raphael, whose red mask reflects his color, embodies rage and strength. Donatello, the group’s genius, aligns with blue, and Michelangelo embodies Green, bringing a sense of heart and growth. The color black, historically associated with rats in the world of Magic, fittingly belongs to the Turtles’ mentor, Master Splinter.

Additionally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles centers on creature types such as Ninja, Mutant, Samurai, Rebel, and Soldier. The occasional Robot, Scientist, and Wizard will show up too.

Turtle Power Mechanics with a Radical Lineup

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles features powerful ninjas, allies, and foes. Mechanics of the set include:

Sneak: “Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand during the declared blockers step. He enters, tapped, and attacking”. For a price, unblocked attackers can become more flexible and strategic.

“Sneak is a new mechanic, but it is very similar to the existing Magic mechanic called ninjutsu. When we started this set, the very first mechanic we put in was ninjutsu. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set is kind of built around ninjutsu. We took this opportunity to clean up the ninjutsu mechanic and make it work within the rules. But the primary reason we did this is so we could make a new, cool card that allows you to put Sneak on Instants and Sorceries. You can sneak attack past your enemy’s defenses.”
– Eric Engelhard, lead game designer for the Magic: The Gathering | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set

Disappear: “At the beginning of your end step, if a permanent left the battlefield under your control this turn, you may create a 1/1 black Rat creature token”. This mechanic encourages players to make strategies that use Sneak to return cards to the player’s hand and to activate the Disappear ability.

Mutagen: “Sacrifice this Token”: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. Active only as a sorcery. A token that brings creatures to the next level.

Partner – Character Select (Commander): “You can have two commanders if both have this ability”. Encouraging players to combine the color identity of both commanders to amp up their deck power.

Returning mechanics include Alliance, Classes, and Changeling.

The bond between the Turtles and their passion for pizza is well-known throughout their adventures. Naturally, Magic has embraced that by incorporating it into the basic lands of the set. The full-art basic lands showcase pizza-themed artwork adorned with a variety of toppings on all five Basic lands. Each Turtle also holds a land that represents their respective color!

You can find the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set at your local game store, on Amazonon TCGplayer, and at any store that sells Magic starting March 6, 2026.
