“My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission” is a fun film for everyone

The third film in the My Hero Academia franchise, My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission is fun for everyone. It is for anime fans of all kinds, from casual fans who may not know too much about anime or the franchise, to hardcore fans. When a sinister organization threatens to wipe out anyone with super powers, called “quirks,” the fate of the world is on the line. Deku (voiced by Justin Briner), Bakugo (voiced by Clifford Chapin), and Shoto Todoroki (voiced by David Mantranga) manage to work as a team as they go “plus ultra” to take down the organization. This is a spoiler-free review!

My Hero Academia is a Japanese manga and anime series written by Kohei Horikoshi. The first volume of the manga was released in 2014 and is still continuing. Currently, there are 32 volumes available. As for the anime, it began airing in 2015 and has five available seasons. Season 6 will be coming out, but there is no official air date. The story follows main character Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, and his friends in class 1-A from UA High School. They are training to use their powers, or “quirks” for good and become heroes.

My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission

Just like the first two films Two Heroes and Heroes Rising, World Heroes’ Mission is considered a “one shot” story. This means that the story is not directly from the manga like the episodes of the anime. In World Heroes’ Mission, there are some minor references to events from different episodes of the show. The references are brief and fit the storyline of the film nicely. So, you do not have to be caught up to enjoy the film.

The entire film was so much fun. There was great music and some very funny moments. Also, we get to meet a new character and a new villain. Rody Soul (voiced by Ryan Colt Levy) teams up with Deku throughout the film as Deku is on the run from the villain organization. Now, I won’t give away anything pertaining to this new villain!

Again, this film is great for hardcore anime/My Hero Academia fans as well as those with no prior knowledge. For fans of the manga, this movie is a nice and welcome change of pace from what is happening in the current chapters.

As a whole, this film is very “big three” centric. Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki are the stars of the film. Personally, I would have liked to see more of the rest of class 1-A. However, I understand why they were the main focus. It was definitely a lot of fun to see them working (mostly) well together to take down the big bad. Personally, I felt there were a few spots that felt a little bit rushed, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of the film at all. BONES animation studio did such an amazing job with the gorgeous animation. Overall, I had a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoyed the third film of the My Hero Academia franchise! I would recommend seeing it!
