As we’ve seen in both his first series as the Doctor and in the trailer for the fast-approaching season two, Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor has had some amazing looks! Ahead of the new season starting on April 12, 2025, Temple of Geek was part of a virtual press conference and asked both Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu about the costumes we’ll be seeing soon. Also, we got a few more details about an episode later in the season!

Ncuti Gatwa’s Favorite Costumes from Season 2
When asked about his favorite looks for his Doctor in the upcoming season, Ncuti Gatwa first mentioned the spacesuits. The Doctor and Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) have already been spotted in these suits in the trailer, but Gatwa specifically mentioned that we will see them in episode 3. “The Well” was written by Russell T Davies and Sharma Angel Walfall.

Of all the looks the Doctor has this season, which of the costumes is Ncuti Gatwa’s favorite?
I’ve just remembered his outfit when he goes back to Lagos. And his hair! He’s got cornrows, he had an afro! That was really cool because it felt it was a very black-centric episode and that came out in the fashion. And so that was really cool. Really nice to explore each genre through the fashion.
From the episode title reveals and the glimpses we’ve gotten of this look in the trailers, it would seem that Gatwa is talking about episode 5: “The Story & The Engine” by Inua Ellams- a new writer for “Doctor Who.”

Ellams himself is from Nigeria- the country in which Lagos is located- and has been a fan of “Doctor Who” since he was 10! Apart from the location of the episode, though, we still don’t know much about the story. The teaser on social media for the title reveal does seem to indicate that people are going missing. A perfect mystery for the Doctor and Belinda to solve!
Varada Sethu’s Favorite Costume
Of course, it’s always exciting to get a new companion on the show as well. We asked Varada Sethu what her favorite look of the season is. She agreed with one of Ncuti Gatwa’s favorite costumes: the space suits!

However, what is Varada Sethu’s other favorite costume she gets to wear this season?
She says, “I think my favorite’s still got to be the 1950s dress! I loved that sort of ‘West Side Story’ yellow.”
The dress is absolutely gorgeous. I will be utterly shocked if this is not a costume we see a lot of among “Doctor Who” cosplayers over the next convention season and beyond. Plus, the episode the costume is from- episode 2, “Lux” by Russell T Davies- looks like a lot of fun as well. The episode features the return of Alan Cumming to “Doctor Who” as animated baddie Mr Ring-a-Ding. We’ll also get to see the Doctor and Belinda as animated characters for part of the episode.

Of course, we still haven’t seen all of Belinda’s looks just yet. If last season is anything to go by, the trailers typically show the first few episodes. There are sometimes brief looks at later episodes, but they don’t want to ruin all of the surprises!
“Doctor Who” returns on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ (where available) on April 12th. Episodes premier at 8am BST/12am PDT/3am EDT.
