Nerdbot Con 2018 at the Pasadena Convention Center was pretty cool. The annual event celebrated its third anniversary with this intimate yet fun filled event. This con had something for everybody! From live music to video game tournaments. There was even cosplay karaoke and free photo rooms. Even if you’re a beard enthusiast, such as this writer, there was something there for you!
So what were some of the awesome things I saw at Nerdbot Con? Well obviously the cosplay from those in attendance was amazing. All of the cosplayers did a great job to show off their skills and love of their favorite characters. This was capped off at the cosplay contest which was held to close out the convention on the main stage.
Speaking of the main stage, various live music acts were featured. Cosplay cover bands and nerddom fandom parody acts. It was truly awesome to see such talented artists display their talents. Also, around Nerdbot, you could see your favorite 80s cartoon icons walk around the con floor. Life sized Transformers and Voltron robots and the Ninja Turtles and the evil Shredder were on hand to greet fans.
The special guests on hand at Nerdbot included former Power Rangers, professional cosplayers and pro wrestlers. There was so much to do in what seemed like so small of a space. Whatever your interests are and whatever you enjoy doing at comic conventions, Nerdbot had you covered.
As an extra bonus, if you had the opportunity to hold the Tesseract and take a picture, surprise!!! You were snapped by our own resident photographer Jose Vasquez. You may have even had an encounter with one friendly neighborhood Spider-Man who is writing this article right now.
On site, the panels included at Nerdbot con involved how to embody the character that you are cosplaying. It was very insightful and helped a lot of young budding cosplayers in truly capturing the spirit of their characters. There was also a heated debate between which franchise was better between Star Wars and Star Trek which literally had the room divided in half. It was such a fun experience to be involved with such an event.
Overall Fan Experience
As a fan, I had an awesome time. The measure of how good an event is is not wanting it to end and sadly Nerdbot Con ended in the late afternoon. The event, however, was so awesome that it will return for a fourth year and hopefully be bigger and better. If you’re new to going to comic conventions and are in the SoCal area, check out Nerdbot Con next fall. It’s definitely worth it. Also when you see the Temple of Geek crew, say hey!!! We’d love to meet you.
