Luke Cage Cancelled
One week after the news that Ironfist would not be getting a third season on Netflix, we have another casualty among the Marvel shows, Luke Cage. The news broke earlier today while people are still streaming the third season of Daredevil that was dropped Friday.
“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” said in a statement released by Netflix and Marvel. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”
One Possibility
There has been no official reason from Netflix as to why this show was cancelled. Blame the studio, blame Netflix, hell even blame Thanos, but I believe this has to do with the new streaming app that is in development by Disney.
In August of 2017, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that they would be pulling their titles from various streaming services for their own streaming service. Now, the Marvel/Netflix deal was scheduled for a multi year production. We are 5 years in since they made the first announcement in 2013. Disney announced that Antman and the Wasp would be the last Marvel film to release on Netflix and that any future film will be on their new service. Is it possible that this deal extends to the Netflix Marvel Universe shows now?
Another Possibility
It seems suspicious that it is Ironfist and Luke Cage that has been axed. While it has yet to be seen what the fate is for the remaining Marvel shows, Netflix had expressed interest in producing more shows. Is it possible that these two characters may evolve into something more?
The characters Danny Rand and Luke Cage have a bond that has been explored in the comics. The most notable team-up book that features the duo is Heroes for Hire. What if Netflix decided to take these two characters and bring them together in a combined show of the same name? One of the most talked about episodes in Luke Cage’s second season was the episode that featured Danny Rand.
Let’s also talk briefly about Colleen Wing and Misty Night. There was a whole story arc in Ironfist season 2 that explored their relationship. They are fan favorite characters after all. Not to mention that they have had their own title in the comics called Daughters of the Dragon. What if Marvel and Netflix decided that they need to explore these characters more in depth?
Social Media Support
What ever the reasons they had to pull the plug on Luke Cage or Ironfist, the support and fan outcries can be felt on social media. Here are just some of the comments that have come since the announcement.
Thanks to you and your talented cast, writers and crew for bringing Luke and his world to life so beautifully. #LukeCage

Wrap-up
I for one will miss these shows. They were fun shows that told good stories. Whatever is happening, you can bet that these characters will be back. Well, what do you all think? Are these shows gone for good? Do you think they are going to the new Disney app? Is Netflix going to be cooking up new shows? Let us know your thoughts by commenting below.
Just as long as they don’t ditch Jessica Jones I will be fine. If they do that… Send help!
