Samuel Haine and John Schrad have come up with a wonderful new holiday tradition for Geek & Nerd Culture: “A Kaiju Christmas“. A Kaiju Christmas is a 40-page children’s book based on The Night Before Christmas, but instead of a Santa flying down to drop off presents a giant monster snowman appears through an extra-dimensional portal to ruin the holidays. And it’s up to a group of brave kids to save Christmas and the world.
Monica sat down to chat with Samuel Haine and John Schrad to discuss A Kaiju Christmas. And to talk about what inspired this book and how it came to be.
This book is a passion project for both Samuel Haine and John Schrad. An opportunity for two friends to work together and make something really cool. Bot are fans of the robots and monster genre. Fans of Power Rangers, Godzilla, Pacific Rim, King Kong, and Voltron will love the action-packed story. And everyone who loves Christmas will adore the amazing painted art style that harkens back to the holidays of old but with a sci-fi twist!
The 8.5″ 11″ Hardcover will be 40 pages of digitally painted full-page art. And it will be printed on gloss 80lb paper stock to be able to stand up to many read-throughs. Their Kickstarter Campaign has different levels of support and if they meet their campaign goals, the books will be available by this Christmas. The campaign will through September 6th -October 6th, 2022.

This feels like a great new tradition waiting to happen. I can already imagine all the adorable reindeer and snow monster stocking stuffers that could come from this. The illustrations and the poem are pure delights.
