Official trailer for “MICKEY 17”, staring Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie

Bong Joon Ho, the Academy Award-winning writer-director of “Parasite,” brings you his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, “Mickey 17.” Based on the novel “Mickey 7” by Edward Ashton, the film explodes onto screens nationwide on March 7, 2025, and internationally beginning March 5, 2025.

Official trailer for “MICKEY 17”, staring Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie

Meet the unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), who finds himself working for an employer demanding the ultimate sacrifice: his life.

Bong Joon Ho writes and directs a stellar cast, including Robert Pattinson (“The Batman,” “Tenet”), Naomi Ackie (“Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker”), Steven Yeun (“Nope”), and Academy Award nominees Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.

The trailer offers a first look into a film set in the distant future where people sign up to be “expendables,” individuals sent into unknown dangers to test the viability of environments for humans. Often, they die due to the deadly environment (mainly from viruses). However, the following day, these people are cloned, presumably with their memories intact, to be used again. They die repeatedly, but a clone is reprinted each time. Robert Pattinson plays one of these clones. His story begins when he signs up to be an expendable, and one of his clones does not die. Now, it’s a race against time to try and eliminate him and any other expendable multiples.

The film is reminiscent of the 2005 film “The Island,” which starred Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. In “The Island,” a clone named Lincoln Six Echo (McGregor) lives in a seemingly utopian compound. However, he soon discovers that the inhabitants are clones used for organ harvesting and surrogacy by wealthy people in the outside world. Lincoln, along with Jordan Two Delta (Johansson), attempts to escape and expose the illegal cloning operation. It will be interesting to see how “Mickey 17” compares.

A team of acclaimed filmmakers joins Bong Joon Ho:

The casting features some of the best talent of this generation, and the crew is filled with critically acclaimed professionals, so I have high hopes that this film will be great. The trailer feels lighthearted and funny, but the subject matter has the potential to be quite dark. Bong Joon-ho is already well-known for his work with dark comedies like “Parasite,” so he is well-equipped to handle this complex material.
