Prime Video’s “Invincible” Season 2 Episode 1 Review

Season 2 of the acclaimed adult animated superhero series, Invincible, will debut on Prime Video on November 3rd. Based on the groundbreaking comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet.

Invincible Season 2 – What to Expect

In Season One of the Prime Video series Invincible, teenage Mark Grayson discovers that his father is a powerful alien superhero. After his father betrays him and leaves Earth, Mark must rebuild his life and face new threats, all while fearing that he might become his father.

The ending of the first season of Invincible left fans shocked. Those of us that hadn’t read the comics didn’t see that ending coming and we have all been anxiously awaiting season 2. The first few episodes of Season 2 will lay out the main conflicts of the season and will introduce audiences to some new and interesting characters.

Season Two, Episode One gives the audience insight into what the world would have looked like if Mark had teamed up with Omniman. We as the audience see the aftermath of the fight between Mark and his dad. The aftermath for the city, and the damage they caused. The aftermath for superheroes as a whole. And of course, the aftermath for Mark.

The second season is very consistent with what the first gave as far as tone, characters personalities, and relationships. Everyone and everything is exactly the way we left it in the first season. Audiences don’t have to worry about a time jump of any sort. However, this season is much more internal in the sense that we are diving into the heart and heavy emotions right away. The first season built up the emotional connections over some time whereas this season kind of jumps right into the emotional turmoil. Mark is having a difficult time with the big reveal from last season.

Season 2 gives us old and new heroes

This new season also has to follow up on this new superhero team and its changes. Expect to see The Immortal (Ross Marquand) and the Maulers (Kevin Michael Richardson) back in action this season. Alongside some new faces bringing a brand new overarching plot to the second season. This season takes place in the summer after high school graduation and before their freshman year of college.

Ross Marquand (The Immortal), Jason Mantzoukas (Rex Splode), Zachary Quinto (Robot), (Bulletproof), Melise (Dupli-Kate), Grey Griffin (Shrinking Ray)

As we enter the new season we find that Eve (Atom Eve) spends her time helping people directly. Everyone who hasn’t should also go watch the Atom Eve special also available on Prime Video because it’s amazing. Season 2 also continues storylines that seemed to be dropped at the end of season 1. We saw things go bad but we didn’t see the effects and season 2 gives us that.

Over the summer fans were given a sneak preview at San Diego Comic Con and we will see scenes from that revealed in the first few episodes. Invincible Season 2 promises to be just as violent and angsty as Season 1 with just as many twists and turns. At SDCC, the comic book series writer Robert Kirkman pointed out that they have ideas and plans for seasons 3-6. So we can never really assume that we know where this story is going. Season 2 promises to be an exciting season.
