What we’re playing

Amanda – Obviously, it’s Pokemon. It’s gonna be like that for a while too. I’ve done a month now of 30k-50k per week and I’m feeling good about it. There are new pokemon released regularly during events, so I’m still catching things regularly. And I recently got a gotcha which auto-catches them when I’m out on walks where I can’t really look at my phone. Is it cheating? Sorta, but I feel so satisfied looking at the big list of catches… I don’t care.

Stacy- I’ve fallen off the wagon…and back on the Hearthstone train, drinking Blizzard’s Kool-Aid…

Gaming news

Epic Games acquires Tonic Games Group – Why should you care? Well, Fortnite now owns Fall Guys, another internet games sensation. They’re expanding. Who will they snap up next? Maybe Among Us?

Steam darling Valheim boasts 5 million players – Bizarrely this little game seems so popular because it doesn’t do so many of the survival tropes we’ve come to know and hate. If you wanna be a Viking without a hunger or thirst meter, check it out.

Main Topic – Gaming developers lying, is it legal?

With Bioware officially canceling all the planned dev on Anthem and Google pulling Stadia devs. And two million refunds on Cyberpunk 2077. It feels like devs are making more promises than ever and failing to deliver in a big way. In the EU, there are strict consumer protections. Namely, “As described – The goods supplied must match any description given to you or any models or samples shown to you at the time of purchase.” In the USA, it’s harder as most consumer protections are regulated by state government or courts. So, finding the right statute can be a challenge. But you do have options. Legal recourse is a possibility. We talk about that and much more in today’s episode.
