Riftbound: Spiritforged

Riftbound’s Second Set, Spiritforged, Is Out Today

The League of Legends new trading card Riftbound launched with Origins in the West on Halloween of last year. Today, the sophomore set Spiritforged, is available to purchase (if you can find it) and legal for in-store play. We took an early look at the new expansion, which emphasizes new Equipment cards and new abilities. 12 new Legends cards are also available, which you’ll use to form the basis of the deck you want to build.

Like many other TCGs, new sets in Riftbound offer new mechanics and shakes up the meta game to help keep it fresh. Spiritforged has definitely achieved this with a host of new abilities and keywords for players to learn. Check out how some of them work below:

  • Equipment: These are Gear cards that can be attached to units for a cost that can increase their Might or give special abilities.
  • Weaponmaster: Units with this ability can attach an Equipment for a discounted Power cost upon entering the game.
  • Quick-Draw: You can play Equipment cards that have this keyword at Reaction speed, then equip it automatically once it enters.
  • Gold: A special token created by certain cards that you can exhaust to pay for the Power cost of cards you play.
  • Repeat: Spells with this keyword can be played twice at once if you pay double the cost. So spells with Repeat will have utility in both the early and late game.

Looking Ahead

Riftbound plans to release a new set every quarter per year. After Spiritforged comes the third set Unleashed, which will surely shake things up once again upon release. With the full roadmap revealed, fans have a lot to look forward to.

Developed by Riot Games, Riftbound takes the iconic characters from League of Legends and translates them to tabletop form. You can build decks around fan-favorites like Jinx or Ahri in 1v1, 2v2, or even 4-player free-for-all games. If you’re hoping to play at a local game store near you to get started with Riftbound, you can use UVS Games’ events finder to find the shop for you.
