Due for release in January 2021, Alex Kingston stars in The Diary of River Song series eight. There will be four new full-cast audio dramas featuring the Doctor’s wife on her travels through time and space. River Song was seen as the Doctor’s wife in the 2011 Doctor Who TV episode The Wedding of River Song, but her twisted timeline means she and the Doctor rarely see events from the same perspective!
The time-travelling archaeologist and adventurer River Song has met many of the Doctor’s incarnations on screen, plus even more in audio. In this latest series, she will run into a few more characters very familiar to Big Finish Doctor Who listeners.
Alex Kingston is back in “The Diary of River Song Series Eight”
As exclusively revealed in Doctor Who Magazine issue 555 (in shops from 20 August 2020), Alex Kingston is back in The Diary of River Song series eight alongside Salome Haertel (as android Rachel), Derek Griffiths (as 24th century war criminal, Annam Henic), John Leeson (as the Doctor’s favorite robot dog, K9) Tracy Wiles (as robot cat, FE-LINE) and Nicholas Briggs as The Mechonoids. Plus, in a spectacular return to the worlds of Doctor Who, Big Finish regular Jane Slavin reprises the role of Anya Kingdom, Space Security Service officer, who this time is on a rescue mission with a difference.
The synthetic humanoid, Rachel, first encountered in The Diary of River Song series two, is once again played by actor Salome Haertel, otherwise known as Alex Kingston’s real-life daughter.
It’s River and robots! Professor Song is an expert in many things, but her tech skills are tested in these encounters with robotic friends and foes. Over the course of four episodes, River will battle Mechonoids on an ice world, meet K9 in a “forever home,” and help a treasured android friend discover her destiny in the stars.
The box set is comprised of four new adventures: Slight Glimpses of Tomorrow by James Goss, A Brave New World by Tracy Ann Baines, A Forever Home by Alfie Shaw, and Queen of the Mechonoids by Jonathan Morris.
The Diary of River Song series eight is now available to pre-order as a collector’s edition four-disc CD box set or as a download, exclusively from the Big Finish website.
