This year’s Saturn Awards show is dedicated to the memory of the Saturn Awards’ dear friend, actor, and former Saturn Awards host, Lance Reddick, Furthermore, a new special award will be presented in his honor. Keanu Reeves is set to receive the first-ever Lance Reddick Legacy Award. Reeves is a friend and longtime co-star of Reddick from the John Wick franchise. The award will be presented to Keanu Reeves by Titus Welliver (“Bosch”/“Bosch: Legacy”) at the upcoming 51st Annual Saturn Awards, taking place this Sunday, February 4th. Hosted by Joel McHale, the awards will stream live via ElectricNow.
When making the announcement, The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films President Robert Holguin and the Saturn Award producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus had this to say about Keanu Reeves:
“This award symbolizes and celebrates not only a performer’s talent, but theircharacter; someone who’s a true goodwill ambassador in the industry. From Science Fiction (“The Matrix Trilogy”), Fantasy (“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”/ “Constantine”) & Horror (Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula”/”The Devil’s Advocate”), Keanu has done it all — not to mention ”Speed” and ”Point Break.” Keanu is not just a Hollywood icon but also a shining example of humility and gratitude. Throughout his incredible career, he has never forgotten the support of his fans and the filmmakers who’ve supported him all these years. We’re thrilled to celebrate Lance’s memory with a dear friend and a genre icon.”
Lance Reddick, the namesake of the award, was a beloved actor and musician who lit up the screen in many genre titles. Before his untimely death last year at the age of 60, he starred alongside Reeves in the John Wick franchise and co-starred in Bosch with Welliver. Recently, he posthumously appeared in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians as Zeus.
Keanu Reeves joins a star-studded roster of other artists set to receive special honors at the Saturn Awards. Last week, The Academy announced that “Star Trek” icon will present “Family Guy” and “The Orville” creator Seth MacFarlane the Robert Forster Artist’s Honor by “Star Trek” icon William Shatner. Previously, it was made public that Oppeneheimer writer/director Christopher Nolan and Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni would also receive special honors at the Saturn Awards ceremony.
