Social media accounts for “Doctor Who” are down and fans are confused

The Doctor Who social media accounts for the BBC’s television series Doctor Who have vanished shortly after posting a 5-second video clip of the 13th Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker trying to make contact. Is this a publicity stunt to get the internet buzzing about Doctor Who, or has something gone wrong? Routine maintenance? Social Media Upgrade? Well, either way, it’s fun to speculate.

Their Youtube channel has no logo or videos.

Their Instagram page is also missing.

Their Twitter account is also missing.

In a now-deleted tweet, user @morganjeffrey, an editor for Radio Times states that “The @bbcdoctorwho Twitter account has not been canceled, it is simply being rested until a such a time as a new creative team can come on board to give the account a new lease of life. We hope to see it thrive long into the 2020s.”

Tweets from Fans

Twitter user @cfJohnston17 points out how this type of video has circulated before in their advertising and says: “don’t you just love it when they EyesHigh voltage sign #DoctorWho

Twitter user @doc_in_the_box1 shared a Gif of the 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler’s iconic moment where the Doctor is not able to tell Rose Tyler he loved her before he vanishes. “Did the social media team really just Rose Tyler the internet?… #DoctorWho

Twitter user @abitmeddlesome asks “Uh, @bbcdoctorwho, are you good?”

Tweets from Doctor Who Franchises

Even the Big Finish Productions Twitter is confused. At least they are pretending to be confused. Is this a fun way to engage fans and get Doctor Who buzzing? Big Finish Productions is the company that handles all of the Doctor Who Audio series.

Twitter User @blufruity says: “I like to think that the @bigfinish intern has no idea either and this is their genuine reaction” and Big Finish responded with “IT IS” and a Gif that says “I don’t know what to do. My whole brain is crying!”

I don’t know who is running the Big Finish Twitter account today, but they are making my day with these tweets. They posted a Gif of Amy Pond comforting a dying Rory Williams as he starts to disappear into dust. “Me, hoping that I don’t disappear when @bbcdoctorwho reappears… #DoctorWho

We’ve reached out to BBC America and BBC Studios for comments and will update if and when we get a response. Hopefully, this means we get a trailer and airdate for the show soon!
