Marvel broke the internet… again! This time, it was due to a certain homecoming. Marvel Studios announced a partnership with Sony Pictures to bring Spider-man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I will give you time to freak out. I’ll wait… Done? Okay. Marvel’s Kevin Feige is set to produce the Spider-man franchise with Amy Pascal. He will be introduce in a Marvel Studios film in 2016 and will be feature in his own stand alone film, financed by Sony, on July 28, 2017. What this means is several things.
Spider-man was an integral part of the Civil War story-line back in 2008. He was used as a propaganda tool by Tony Stark to convince others to join his side.
I foresee the events in the Civil War movie going down a similar path. Although, identities have not been a big issue for the on screen heroes so far, I see them being an issue for Spider-man. If Marvel is wanting to go with a younger Peter Parker/Spider-Man, my number one choice is Asa Butterfield. If you seen Ender’s Game, you know this kid can act. As of writing this article, Variety.com is reporting that Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman are being considered for the role.
Whatever happens with this character, I can count on that he will be treated with the utmost respect now that he is home with Marvel. Even though Sony still has their grasp on this beloved Character, Marvel will ensure that he is taken care of.
