The Spider-Man: Far From Home premiere took place last night in Hollywood, CA. The cast and creators were on hand for the star-studded event. Following the red carpet event, the movie premiered to select audiences. And we can say with great certainty that this film is a great time at the movies. The story of Peter Parker trying to live his life after the events of Avengers: Endgame is full of heart, action, and humor. The casting is incredible and it really feels like this is what a Spider-Man man movie should be!

Spider-Man in Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: ™ FAR FROM HOME

The film was fun, action-packed and full of humor. It was non stop action without feeling too heavy-handed. From the beginning, we see our hero Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, caught up in one whirlwind adventure after another. And although the pacing feels like its non-stop and possibly moving too fast at some points there is a big pay off for this. For the first time in a Spider-Man movie franchise, we see Peter Parker outside of his friendly neighborhood and into some new cross Atlantic territories as he travels with his friend’s on a European summer vacation.  The scenery in the movie is absolutely lovely but it doesn’t distract from the story. It feels nicely intertwined with even the heavy use of special effects.

The trailer does not disappoint. The movie is pretty much what the trailer has set up for us. It’s the story of Peter Parker dealing with the effects on his life after losing Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame while also trying to live a normal teenage life. It does a great job of picking up right where Endgame leaves off and even answers a lot of questions about what the real-life implications of Avengers: Endgame would look like.

The representation in the group of Peter Parker’s classmates and throughout the film is also very refreshing! Overall the performances in this film are brilliant. Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Zendaya (Michelle “MJ” Jones) and Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) absolutely nailed their roles. Their portrayal of their teenage characters is absolutely precious. Their chemistry as a team is hilarious and refreshing. The way that Holland and Zendaya play off each other in the film feels honest and sweet. There is a very relatable teenage anxiety and excitement that makes you root for these two characters from the start. There is a lot of honesty in this film in the way they portray Peter Parker. The film does a great job at presenting the world through a teenage Peter Parker’s eyes and how he comes to terms with the idea that with great power comes great responsibility.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Holland star in Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: ™ FAR FROM HOME.Jake Gyllenhaal is very much the scene stealer! He is charismatic and charming as Quentin Beck/Mysterio. The relationship between Peter Parker and Mysterio feels really earned. There are even plenty of surprises in store for those who are familiar with the character of Mysterio from the comics, and who may feel they know where this relationship is heading. The return of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) helps to keep this film from feeling like a stand-alone franchise. Their appearances and parts in the film perfectly tie into the overall storytelling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their story also helps audiences understand where the world stands post Endgame.

There are a ton of twists and surprises, lots of laughs and tons of beautiful heartfelt moments and nods to the very beginning of the MCU. This movie wonderfully ties in the history of the MCU. It is emotional without breaking your heart, the performances are excellent and it sets up the future of the MCU in a way that will leave audiences speculating WHAT COMES NEXT! Make sure you stay tuned for the two end credit scenes!

Spider-Man: Farm from home releases to general audiences on July 2nd.
