Paramount+ released the final trailer for the third season of Star Trek: Picard during the halftime show of the AFC Football Championship game.
The final season of Star Trek Picard reunites the cast of the Star Trek The Next Generation series to take on another challenge in the final frontier.
A desperate message from a friend draws Starfleet legend Admiral Jean-Luc Picard into the most daring mission of his life. Picard is forced to recruit allies spanning generations old and new. This final adventure sets him on a collision course with the legacy of his past. As well as explosive new revelations that will alter the fate of the Federation forever.
The previous seasons of Picard have been centralized on the key figure of the Star Trek: Next Generation era. Sir Patrick Stewart returns to the endearing and respected role of Jean-Luc Picard. In Picard, those plotlines involved his personal relationships with others and led to him deconstructing parts of his past.
Knowing Picard and his trust in the crew of the Enterprise, it appears he calls upon them to bring them together for one last possible mission. Along with the new trailer come announcements of additions to the cast. Ed Speleers will appear as a series regular who aids Beverly Crusher’s medical efforts on worlds Starfleet has forgotten. Todd Stashwick will also appear in a recurring role as captain of the U.S.S. Titan. It may come as no surprise that Stashwick joins the cast and rejoins the work of Picard showrunner Terry Matalas since he was also a showrunner on 12 Monkeys.
On his Twitter account, Matalas already confirmed Stashwick’s role as the captain of the starship, U.S.S. Titan-A. The ship has been prevalent in all the trailers released for this season.
Todd Stashwick himself announced and confirmed his role with some geeky Trek humor in homage to some of Star Trek’s tropes, especially to the titular character of Jean-Luc Picard:
Even if this might be the final season, Matalas also teased that some characters might be considered for future Trek projects. As hinted at in an interview with SFX Magazine stating:
This season is very much a passing of the torch to the next generation. So it will really be up to the fans to decide if they want to see more. Star Trek has always been up to the fans. The fans brought back the original series characters into feature films and conventions and kept it alive, it will have to be the same here. So we’ll see.
One of the most exciting aspects of Star Trek is its ability to flaunt some new styles and additions to Starfleet by introducing new ships on the various Trek series. In this final trailer, it appears that the prominent U.S.S. Titan-A gets involved in some heavy action and is being chased by some adversary. In addition, fans get to see a longer glimpse at the newest upgrade to the famous and enduring Enterprise ship in this season’s designation as U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-F.
Popularized in the Star Trek: Online Massive Multiplayer Online game, the Enterprise F makes its debut as canon to the Star Trek Universe. It appears Picard’s words from Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, “Yesterday’s Enterprise” rings true,
“Let’s make sure history never forgets the name, Enterprise.”
There was another appearance of a ship in the trailer that has not yet been identified.
The key art promotional material for Star Trek Picard Season 3 has been astounding, and a new one was just revealed alongside the announcement of the new trailer
It’s gratifying to see the final poster as it reveals the entire Next Gen cast. This time includes Brent Spiner’s character as Lore. Most notable is the inclusion of Ed Speeler in his yet-unidentified role in the series.
The 10 episodes of this third and final season of Star Trek Picard will premiere on Paramount+ on February 16th.
