In an X post/ tweet during an investor call, Nintendo’s official X/ Twitter account has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch successor will be announced before the end of the current fiscal year, which is March 2025. Read the tweet below:
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.
It’s unclear how and when the video game titan will announce their next hardware, but we finally have official acknowledgement of the console’s existence direct from the source. Countless rumors and potential leaks have been circulating around the internet for some time now, with the most recent batch claiming the next hardware will have magnetic Joy-con.
Additionally, a Nintendo Direct was announced for this June. They made sure to mention that that presentation will have no information about the next hardware. Instead, it will focus on upcoming software until the end of 2024. We know nothing about Nintendo’s first-party software plans past Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, which is coming June 27. Apart from the recently leaked via ESRB rating Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition for Switch, it seems to be a quiet year. Maybe this summer’s Direct is where we’ll finally get information on Metroid Prime 4 or Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD. I’m not holding my breath, though.
It will be interesting to see how soon after announcing the next hardware Nintendo wants to release it, but I personally would love to see it come out the Switch’s birthday, March 3rd.
