Temple Of Geek Chic: Prophecy Girl

Temple of Geek Chic is back this week with Prophecy Girl! Prophecy Girl is a British based geeky clothing brand for women. It was launched in 2016 by graphic designer and life long geek Kirsty Hannam. Hannam’s goal was to create a line of clothing that allows women to wear their geek side with pride. The brand came about after years of struggling with the lack of stylish geeky clothes for women in the UK, Prophecy Girl aimed to change that. Today we are putting this brand to the geek test! Our models are fangirls, cosplayers, gamers and podcasters who also have a passion for fandom and they were tasked with styling this brand for every day wear.

What we love about it:

The cult culture! The way this brand speaks to the real passionate fans of some of our favorite fandoms. With patterns and designs that these fans can really appreciate. We like that their style is more about symbolism and subtle nods versus a loud call out of “Hey! This is a movie t-shirt”. For example, the Loki pattern and color scheme is obvious to any Tom Hiddleston fan girl, but to the average muggle, you don’t necessarily notice that it’s anything but a nice patterned shirt. The same can be said for the all the different fandom shirts from Prophecy Girl. I mean even their company name is a nod to the Buffy The Vampire Slayer fandom!

How does it feel?

SOFT! The shirts are comfortable and soft. These are meant to be enjoyed. According to Prophecy Girl HQ, sustainability and being able to wear these over and over is very important to the company. They want to make products that last a long time. So far so good.

What is the print like?

The print is clear and sharp on the button up shirts as well as on the t-shirt an sweatshirt! I personally appreciate the work that goes into the design of each shirt. It’s the little details that scream fan girl!

Does it look good on different body types?

We didn’t get a chance to test out too many different sizes, but so far we like what we tried on. The button up shirts are cut short and wide. We appreciate wide for those days when we just do not need anything to be clingy! But also for comfort. Cosplayer Allison styled her Slayerette top by tying the bottom in a cute tie. The Slayerfest T-shirt was longer in length.  Currently the tops are only available in sizes S-XL. If you are ordering these shirts from outside the UK, be sure to check the sizing chart!

Can you dress it up?

Heck yes! We think these button up tops would look great paired with a skirt and cardigan as much as with a suit.

Overall:

The biggest thing we appreciate about this brand is the thought that goes into the design. You can tell that it is well thought out. AND that it is well thought out by a true geek. Just the amount of detail on the Slayerette shirt alone is impressive. That purple damask pattern is made up of slayer scythes, stakes, claddagh rings, gravestones, crucifixes, daggers and more. We have more photos from each design below. I invite you to take a look at the effort that has gone into these designs! I also recommend checking out their collection of enamel pins (badges). They have a really unique and fun collection.
