Temple Of Geek Chic: SkirtyBirt

When it comes to geek fashion you have very few options on where to find clothes that look great on, empowers you and represents your fandom. Malls and other shopping centers don’t offer much in fandom that feels like actual fashion. If you don’t have a comic book convention that comes to town regularly your options are slightly more limiting. That is where business owners like Brittnee Braun really make a difference. Brittnee is the proprietor of Skirtybirt. She makes Handmade Clothing and Jewelry for the Feminine Nerd! And Feminine is exactly what her clothes make you feel like. Britnee travels to conventions to sell her designs but they are also available to anyone through her Etsy Shop.

What We Love

What we love about these skirts is the fact that they are handmade. Having them handmade at an affordable price is a unique!. She offers sizes from XXS-5XL. And she offers different lengths. Her shop has an absolute wonder of an assortment of different geeky fabrics to chose from. Everything from NASA to Horror to Harry Potter!

We had three different models style these skirts with items that were already in their closest. What we loved was how wonderfully these skirts paired with everything from a T-shirt and boots to a sweater and high heels.

Fabrics are very fun! We are a firm believer in wearing that which empowers you! That which makes you feel good and absolutely that which is fun! These skirts all of that with feminine flair!

Overall

We love how easily these skirts work with everything we wear. We noted how lovely the pleats look when they are pressed and laid out. The fabrics we tried do wrinkle easily, so keep that in mind when going out. They will most likely need to be pressed after each wash to retain the pretty pleats. Our model, Riley, noted that on skirts she owned from this company that if you don’t consistently iron them it’s OK too because the skirts eventually flair out to look like a circle skirt. Which was something she personally liked. She also noticed that the darker fabrics were a lot more forgiving when it comes to wrinkles. It is much less notable on the darker fabric.

Our model, Hope, had a really fun time modeling these skirts and had lots to say.  “Length is great. Not too short or too long. Sizing between XS and S was not too significant. I liked that it was high waisted and seemed to be pleat front fit like guy pants where it sort of smooths out the tummy area. Pleats seemed like they’d make the skirt stay in place on windy days. I needed help hooking the back so if I was alone I’d probably have to turn it forward to secure and then twist it back in place. It seemed like the hooks made it less likely to roll down while sitting though so that’s good.”

Overall we are absolutely loving these skirts! They are perfect from casual to dressier wear and perfect for bounding and the convention floor!
