We’re kicking off a new series of posts, the “Temple of Geek Chic Style Profile,” which features the fabulous personal fashion of real-life geeks. The “Style Profile” is a great way to get to know stylish geeks you may have seen on social media. As a bonus, you’ll get geek style tips, ideas, and inspiration. Hopefully, you’ll also discover new places to shop for geeky apparel and accessories.
Our debut “Style Profile” showcases Sara Glassberg, aka @saraglassy. Sara enjoys putting together comfy, casual, color-coordinated ensembles inspired by Star Wars and other fandoms.
Star Wars is my “main” fandom for sure. But a close second to that would be horror movies. Other honorable mentions include the MCU, Saturday Night Live (if that counts!), Hellboy, Birds of Prey, and cinema in general.
I’d describe my personal geek style as comfy, casual, and very color-coordinated! I incorporate merchandise mostly, rather than going for character-themed looks (though I have started to dabble, thanks to various Instagram fashion challenges that force me to be creative and venture outside my comfort zone!). My favorite thing to do is basically take a nerdy tee shirt and build an entire outfit around its color scheme. I also love playing with different patterns, especially floral prints!
I love all my Her Universe brand items, especially those I was able to score secondhand; I was able to get a floral Star Wars romper, Boba Fett dress, and Marvel shortalls, all seemingly discontinued Her Universe items in great condition (sometimes still with tags!) from Poshmark. I also love all my Star Wars bags. Some of them are Loungefly — a pink and yellow floral Leia satchel purse, a Boba Fett crossbody, and Phasma handbag — and others are handmade by talented artists.
Probably a Star Wars tee shirt, paired with a collared shirt underneath and/or a skirt. As always, everything would be matching and for me, the more accessories and accents I can add into the mix to highlight certain colors, the better! I also really like styling men’s button-downs and Hawaiian shirts that have a geeky pattern.
I get most of my nerdy tee shirts from independent brands like Super Yaki, Jordandene, and The Colorful Geek. I also love Hot Topic, BoxLunch, as well as Her Universe (especially for Star Wars dresses), and Loungefly, as mentioned, and try to shop on Poshmark for those brands when I can. For my men’s button-downs and Hawaiian shirts with geeky patterns, I seem to have great luck at Kohl’s and Target for Star Wars and Marvel ones, and Creepy Company for horror ones!
My Instagram, @saraglassy, is where I post my outfit pictures, and that has been my main creative outlet so far! I also wrote an article about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for the website Project Stardust and got to appear on an episode of ForceTime: A Star Wars Podcast, where I got to chat about the first eight stories in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.
I co-host the AJFF In Conversation Jewish Film Podcast for the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, where sometimes I get to geek out about Jewish horror movies, Stan Lee and Jewish superheroes, and Natalie Portman (in general and specifically because she’s Padmé!).
This bridal style is inspired by Marvel’s Loki and looks fantastic
