Temple of Geek Manga Reviews – One Punch Man and My Hero Academia

If you’re tired of the regular activity of reading left to right, grab a manga and switch it up a bit. Just like normal comics, manga is collections of chapters of primarily Japanese media vehicles. Most of the time they’re in black and white and a lot of the time they expand the universe of properties you already love. So what are some manga that you need to be reading right now? Let’s find out together.

My Hero Academia Volumes 14-16

Picking up exactly where the anime leaves off because that’s exactly what the fans need. The students at UA High find out about work-study hero programs and what they need to do in order to secure one. Most of the students in Class 1-A have their provisional hero licenses and are going out to get work-study programs to act as professional heroes.  We’re shown new heroes and we’re also shown the quirks of previously introduced students and explained how they work. This is so awesome to see on the page and I can’t wait to see it animated in the anime.

The story also goes into the backstory of some of the favorites at UA. Something huge is happening in the MHA universe and it’s about to be time for the pro heroes and the students at various high schools with hero programs to get super serious. The League of Villains is mobilizing and enlisting help from the Yakuza.

English translations of the manga are currently being released each month. Each volume contains about 8-10 chapters with fan art and other extras. Definitely, a fun read for fans of MHA and a manga is an awesome stocking stuffer for the holidays.

One Punch Man

Ever wondered how you’d feel if you could beat anyone with one punch? If you were Saitama, the titular One Punch Man, you’d be bored to tears. An everyday dude who has a brush with being a hero decides to train his body and mind and becomes unbelievably strong. Strong to the point where he can defeat anyone with one single punch. He’s over it. However, he does make the effort to defend those in need on his pursuit of finding a worthy challenge.

The characters found in One Punch Man are absolutely hilarious and serve as a tribute to pop culture, anime and other mangas as well. Whereas My Hero Academia can be looked at as a parody of superheroes, One Punch Man is complete satire. That satire is where One Punch Man finds its absolute genius and is a complete delight to read. This writer can tell you in full honesty that I can identify with Saitama on many levels. If you haven’t already been watching the series, check out the manga and get more of the One Punch Man.
