Cosplay Connection, hosted by Maddie, went live on the Temple of Geek Instagram to interview cosplayer RobinNerdyCosplay. Cosplay Connection is all about learning more about cosplayers and their journeys through cosplay.
Robin gives advice on how to edit at-home photos
Robin is an incredibly talented cosplayer. Since there are no conventions going on, and it may not be safe to take photos outside, photo editing has become a major game changer.
“When I first started out, I didn’t have backdrops. I didn’t have ring-lights. I didn’t have any of that. So, I learned how to, like, get better in the photography of cosplay.”
Robin went on to talk about how to get great photos at home:
“I definitely have to say backdrops! For sure! I bought this [the backdrop behind her] backdrop – I bought this from Amazon. It’s a tablecloth! That’s a sequin tablecloth! It was ten bucks. I just picked up a shower curtain rod. Just hook some hooks onto it, and it just changed everything! …a ring-light from Amazon, thirty bucks. Those two together, and your pictures will just POP so much better!”
Photo editing apps are a huge help. Robin mentioned making sure that your pictures are taken with a clean background so it is easier to erase in the app you use.
Cosplay is more than a hobby
Cosplay is life for Robin. It is so much more than a hobby.
“It [cosplay] means excitement. It means creativity. It means an outlet. It means community. And just, overall survival. Because cosplay just… it has united me with so many amazing people, and it gives me an outlet from like, the day to day. You know? It’s like, I got to work, I go to work, I go to work. But then I come home and I put on a cosplay. And I feel calm, and I feel centered. I just, I feel complete. It allows me to make it every day.”
