S.G. Blaise’s The Last Lumenian series expands this year, and she heads to San Diego Comic-Con this week to unveil the next phase of her incredible worldbuilding. But before her major comic con announcement, let’s dive into the series that started it all. Don’t worry, this review remains spoiler-free.
S.G. Blaise’s The Last Lumenian series
The first book, and the overall story, channels Game of Thrones vibes. From the shifting perspectives to the high-stakes politics, The Last Lumenian masterfully blends magic and politics. S.G. excels at details. Her descriptions of the characters, the world, and the action immerse readers in the story. It’s like you’re walking alongside these characters. They’re well-defined, and even with a complex, multilayered story, it’s easy to follow.
In the second book, True Teryn, S.G. Blaise demonstrates the power of pacing. I won’t overuse the term “page-turner,” but this book is a delightful read with incredible detail and world-building. The action never stops, yet there’s ample time to connect with the interpersonal relationships.
This book transports us to a new location, presenting our characters with fresh challenges. The second book leans more towards magic. Politics still simmer beneath the surface, but our characters primarily grapple with the magical elements of this world.
Proud Pada, the third book, takes a sharp turn. Instead of trials and tribulations, this book unravels a mystery. The crew races to find a killer and a kidnapper, a plot that ties directly into the previous book and the overarching series narrative.
Throughout the series, the entire cast undergoes significant character development. Then, a twist! Instead of occasional perspective shifts, an entire book focuses on a character other than Lilla. In the fourth installment, we follow Glenna, Lilla’s best friend, as she battles the corruption within her. This perspective change is a refreshing surprise, especially with a character so well-established in previous books.
The fifth book, returning to Lilla and the main group, releases in December. S.G. embarks on a virtual book tour, guiding us through the seven galaxies.
