The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Revealed

After revealing the sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at E3 2019, Nintendo fans have been starving for information on this massively-anticipated title. Today, during their September 2022 Direct, Nintendo finally revealed the title, a new trailer, and release date for the game: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and will release May 12, 2023.

From Nintendo:

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: In addition to the vast lands of Hyrule, the latest entry in the storied Legend of Zelda series will take you up into the skies and an expanded world that goes beyond that! Look forward to Link’s massive adventure starting again when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, drops for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.

While they did show off some more gameplay and a new hoverboard(?), details on the game’s plot, characters, and other gameplay elements still remain a mystery. Surely Nintendo will reveal more information in the coming months leading up to the game’s release. Breath of the Wild’s open-world freedom and gameplay elements are sure to return, and hopefully new mechanics are present as well. Personally, I would be interested to play as Zelda in this outing.

Many other titles were revealed during the September Direct, including Octopath Traveler II and Fire Emblem Engage. Check out our full breakdown here.
