Rings of Power is finally here and is one of the most anticipated shows of the year. However, it has divided existing Lord of the Rings fans. Most fans are approaching this similarly to how Game of Thrones Fans is approaching House of the Dragon, cautiously optimistic. With a monster budget and the very long shadow of one of the most successful franchises in the history of film, Rings of Power has lots to live up to.
Rings of Power does an incredible job of establishing the world
Rings of Power does an incredible job of establishing the world, the characters, and its magic very quickly. The dialogue is absolutely beautiful and immediately recognizable as Tolkien. It’s so true to what fans want out of something that takes place in the same universe as Lord of the Rings.
One of the things fans were most concerned about was Rings of Power possessing the same scope and scale as Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings has a rich history, lore, and depth. The battles are elaborate with incredible imagery and go into the same world, that is the expectation that fans have. Rings of Power understands what is expected from this universe and they live up to the scale that is necessary for a story like this.
Writing a prequel poses very specific challenges for writers because to an extent you are playing on nostalgia and built-in fan love for this universe. Your story also has to fit the canon of the existing universe, in a similar manner to Rogue One, Rings of Power not only does justice to Lord of the Rings but continues to enrich it.
Beautifully written, character-driven show
The Lord of The Rings: Rings of Power is a beautifully written, character-driven show. The heart and emotion present in this show are extremely captivating. The plot is well-paced and wonderfully balanced between character moments, action, and overarching “big bad”. The show gives us insight into characters we already know and love as well as introduces new characters that fans are sure to fall in love with. The other thing Rings of Power does really well is it very clearly shows the differences and characteristics of each race. The elves, dwarves, hobbits, and humans are all established quite well.
The next couple of months of this show are going to be an incredible journey and fans are truly going to love what Amazon Studios has produced. The Lord of The Rings: Rings of Power releases on September 2nd and will be released weekly on Prime Video.
