“The Mandalorian and Grogu” to be filmed entirely in California thanks to significant tax credit.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will start shooting in June of this year. Disney/Lucasfilm will be getting major tax benefits with the next Star Wars film set to be released.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first Star Wars film shot entirely in California with one of the state’s highest tax credit awards ever

According to Deadline, the next movie slated for Star Wars is set to film entirely in California. With it comes $21,755,000 in tax credits that have only been topped by the Transformers prequel Bumblebee. This makes it one of the biggest allocations in the history of the California Film Commission‘s history.

The film is estimated to shoot for 92 days in California, hiring 500 crew members, 54 cast members, and 3500 background players. For many years now, filming has been outsourced to less expensive states and other countries to cut costs. This move by Disney/Lucasfilm hopes to bolster the state’s deficit and help the entertainment industry through its difficult time.

Disney/Lucasfilm bet big on The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is the first big hit after the launch of Disney+ streaming. Created by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, it became an instant success with character favorites like Din DJarin (Pedro Pascal) and the adorable former Jedi youngling, Grogu. This was also the first live-action Star Wars television series that has ushered in a new generation of the popular sci-fi/fantasy universe. Since then there have been 3 seasons, with character appearances in The Book of Boba Fett.

Back in January, Disney announced that it would turn The Mandalorian season 4 into a film titled The Mandalorian and Grogu. It is currently scheduled as the next Star Wars film to hit theaters. This will be the first Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker.

With Disney/Lucasfilm betting big on The Mandalorian and Grogu, can Star Wars reclaim success at the box office? The franchise needs a major success after The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker divided audiences. Other films currently in the works include The New Jedi Order film, featuring Rey Skywalker, and Dawn of the Jedi, by James Mangold. Can these new films usher in a new era of Star Wars?
