The Next Big Hit at LACC

Among the other amazing things that LACC has to offer are exclusive film screenings! LA Comic Con had several this year, accompanied by a Q&A with the cast and production crew. It was a great year for indie filmmaking at LACC and we got to talk to one of the filmmakers, Zak Lee.

Have you ever thought about combining the action packed scenes of a martial arts movie with the joy and music of a musical? No? Well Zak has. This idea popped into his head nearly 40 years ago and now this film is completed and ready to be released. It is also getting its first major premiere screening at LACC. Though this might be the first time the general public is seeing the film it has already been accepted to major industry committees who are reviewing it for award nominations. SAG, the Golden Globes and the Academy have all been submitted The Next Big Hit and Zak is hoping that it will get some Oscar attention.

Zak is not only the creator of The Next Big Hit, but he is also a career stuntman that actively works in the industry. His cast is also full of industry professionals whose experience helped make the filmmaking process smoother (and longer). Hard to produce a film quickly when on an indie budget and everyone works.

If you are a young aspiring filmmaker or artist of any kind Zak has a message for you; don’t give up. This industry is a constant hustle and it takes a lot in order to succeed in this business. You have to be hungry and once you start missing the taste of food you aren’t going to achieve whatever your goal is.

If you miss the Los Angeles Comic Con screening of The Next Big Hit, Zak is hoping for a wide theatrical release sometime in early 2024 (to ensure that they are eligible for that Oscar consideration).
