The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Day announced for August 18th

Fathom Entertainment and Dark Sky Films announced a nationwide theatrical celebration, Texas Chain Saw Day, on August 18, 2025. It will be an entire day dedicated to honoring one of the most influential horror films ever made, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre”.

Released in 1974, it is the chilling tale of a group of young travelers who stumble upon an isolated farmhouse. There, they encounter a deranged family and the iconic, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. The film laid the foundation for many of the elements of the slasher genre. Including the masked, hulking killer, power tools turned into instruments of terror, and the systematic, relentless pursuit of innocent victims.

On August 18, the same day the film’s events unfold, audiences nationwide can experience the original film in 4K. This special theatrical presentation invites both lifelong fans and new horror enthusiasts to witness the power of a film. Often hailed as the scariest movie ever made, the film recently celebrated its year-long 50th Anniversary. It was recently selected for preservation by the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry. This special showing also coincides with the 52nd anniversary of the events depicted in the film.

Additionally, fans will get a sneak peek of “Chain Reactions”, a brand new documentary about the franchise. Directed by Alexandre Phillipe, “Chain Reactions” explores the impact of the 1974 horror film “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.” It features Stephen King, Patton Oswalt, Takashi Miike, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, and Karyn Kusama. The documentary premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion.

Tickets for Texas Chain Saw Day will be available next month at Fathom Entertainment.
