‘The Thicket’ Producer David Ginsberg on Bringing Joe Lansdale’s Western Thriller to the Screen

At the red-carpet premiere of “The Thicket,” producer David Ginsberg shared insights into the making of the film and his collaboration with star Peter Dinklage.

When fierce bounty hunter Reginald Jones (Peter Dinklage) is recruited by a desperate man, he immediately assembles a band of unlikely heroes to track down the ruthless killer known only as Cutthroat Bill (Juliette Lewis). A grave-digging ex-slave and a street-smart woman-for-hire readily join his cause. Together, they embark on a perilous quest to hunt Cutthroat Bill, a journey that ultimately leads them into the deadly “no-man’s-land” known as…The Thicket.

In essence, THE THICKET is a film about vengeance, justice, and unlikely companionship. The film also stars Esmé Creed-Miles, Levon Hawke, Macon Blair, Andrew Schulz, James Hetfield, David Midthunder, with Arliss Howard, with Leslie Grace, and Gbenga Akinnagbe.

Inspiration and Vision and Working with Peter Dinklage

Ginsberg’s journey with “The Thicket” began when co-producer Shannon Golding introduced him to Joe Lansdale’s novel. Moreover, he and Dinklage were instantly captivated by the compelling story and complex characters. “It was a bespoke kind of Western, a thriller, and it felt contemporary at times. We just knew we had to make it,” Ginsberg explained.

Ginsberg praised Dinklage’s professionalism and creative contributions as both a producer and an actor. “Peter was involved every step of the way,” he said. “He brings such a creative force and is a true producing partner.”

The Thicket Goes Beyond the Western Genre

While set in the West, Ginsberg emphasized that “The Thicket” transcends the traditional Western genre. “It’s also a thriller. It has love stories, revenge… at its heart, it’s about a young man who needs to find his kidnapped sister.”

Ginsberg believes audiences will connect with the film’s relatable characters and thrilling plot. “It’s not too far-fetched,” he said. “It’s got a deep, resonating, thrilling aspect to it.”

“The Thicket” promises to be a unique and captivating cinematic experience, blending Western elements with thriller and human drama. With its talented cast and compelling story, the film is poised to leave a lasting impression on audiences.
