The Weekly Pull – Top Picks For Week Of 10/8/18

Temple of Geeks’s new comic book picks are here. A few series got a much-needed reboot. Some old characters were brought back to shine in new solo series. The indie comic scene continues to shine. What new comic book are you reading this week? Temple of Geek shares their top pics now!!!

Shatterstar

Straight from the 90s, Shatterstar is one of the coolest and most complex X-Character. Bred to be gladiator/freedom fighter/TV star on Mojoworld. Shatterstar/Gaveedra-7 has now retired from the superhero game. He’s now a landlord for other super powered beings, including a pug, in a brownstone in Queens, New York. He’s actually one of the best landlords I’ve ever seen which reminded me that comics are fantasy. This new comic book has a lot of heart. It’s funny and well paced. Gives insight on what happened between Shatterstar and his former best friend/lover Rictor. It also answers the question to what heroes do when they hang up their gear. But like anyone whose good at what they do, something drags them back in the game. This time its a character that we all love in a recent MCU movie. What happens when you retire but you’ve got to go back to work? Check out Shatterstar by Marvel right now to find out.

The creative team behind Shatterstar are Tim Seely as writer and Carlos Villa on pencils.

Blackbird

Nina was a girl who could see things no one else could. The problem with that is that no one believed her because she couldn’t prove it. That’s what happens when you’re a kid. Ten years later, Nina is 23, still seeing things and trying to understand just what it is. Is it magic? Is it something more sinister? Why did her cat run away after an earthquake? Follow this wonderfully drawn series to find the answers alongside Nina as she finds deeper truths in the questions of life. This vibrant series explores the metaphysical in a way that reminds you of Alan Moore’s body of work. Despite all that is going on in this new comic book, it’s deeply rooted in reality as we all face these questions.

The creative team of Sam Humphries and Jen Bartel bring you Blackbird. Brought to you by Image comics.

Faith: Dreamside

Valiant Comics brings this limited series based on the hero Zephyr. Zephyr has the power of flight and can also use psychokinesis to move objects with her mind and to defend herself. She’s pretty awesome actually. This limited series sees Zephyr accused of a crime she did not commit and how her life changes as a result. She is faced with the difficult decision to continue her hero work because it’s the right thing to do. However, it’s a pretty bad idea for her to fight crime while still being a wanted criminal herself albeit wrongfully accused. It’s a moral dilemma all around as her friends are involved as well. It’s a pretty neat story filled with action and intrigue. Definitely check it out.

The creative team of Jody Houser, MJ Kim, Jordie Bellair and Dave Sharpe bring you Faith: Dreamside. Published by Valiant Comics.
