Welcome, Whovians, to your weekly dose of Doctor Who news! From all corners of the Whoniverse, here’s what’s been happening!
Season 2 of Doctor Who Wraps Filming
First, showrunner Russell T Davies shared on Instagram on May 25th that filming for Ncuti Gatwa’s second season as the Doctor has wrapped! This upcoming season, whether you call it Season 2, 15, or 41, is expected to be released sometime in 2025, after this year’s Christmas special. The caption read “Wrap party with @miche_greenidge [Actor Michelle Greenidge] and a beautiful Cardiff Bay. That’s Season 2 complete, well done everyone! ♥️♥️➕🟦 ” Michelle Greenidge currently plays the role of Carla, the mother of Ruby Sunday, in the first season of Doctor Who.
Interestingly, Ncuti’s first season wrapped filming in mid-July 2023, so with this earlier wrap date, we might see the new Doctor Who season sooner than expected next year, depending on other production timelines. Series 2 will again consist of 8 episodes and introduce Varada Sethu as a new addition to the TARDIS crew, joining Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson. Stay tuned for more news as it develops!
Two 10th Doctor and Donna Audio Adventures Re-released on Vinyl
Meanwhile, BBC Audio and Demon Records have partnered to re-release two beloved audio adventures featuring the 10th Doctor and Donna Noble as a collector’s edition vinyl box set. “Pest Control” and “The Forever Trap,” read by David Tennant and Catherine Tate, were originally released in 2008 as CDs and downloads.
This deluxe vinyl set includes 6 LPs (three in transparent red, three in transparent yellow), unique packaging, and a booklet by authors Peter Anheides and Dan Abnett, discussing their writing process for the Doctor and Donna. It’s a must-have for any fan!
The Ninth Doctor and River Song: Star Crossed
In other news, “Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Star Crossed” is the latest (and, for now, last) in Big Finish’s full-cast audio dramas for the Ninth Doctor. Released on May 29th, this set of stories sees the Ninth Doctor cross paths with none other than River Song!
Set before the Doctor meets Rose Tyler, these stories feature a companionless Ninth Doctor. However, Professor River Song becomes a more significant presence in his life than he’s used to. The box set includes three thrilling stories and serves as the finale to the current run of “The Ninth Doctor Adventures” at Big Finish, though we likely haven’t heard the last of this Doctor.
Titan Comics Releases Trailer for New 15th Doctor Series
Finally, Titan Comics has released a trailer for their upcoming series featuring the 15th Doctor and Ruby Sunday! Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor, is a new comic series written by Dan Watters and illustrated by Kelsey Ramsay. The first issue will be released on June 26th and is available for pre-order from your local comic shop. For those in the UK and Ireland, from Forbidden Planet. The trailer teases their encounter with the Cybermen and a mall in the last days of planet Earth. There is even a scarf reminiscent of the 4th Doctor. It looks like an exciting adventure awaits!
