‘Until Dawn’ Cast Discusses the Epic Thriller at WonderCon 2025

The cast of “Until Dawn” appeared at WonderCon 2025 to promote the upcoming thriller film. “Until Dawn” is a horror film inspired by the interactive survival horror game of the same name. The film stars Ella Rubin as Clover, who searches for answers about her sister’s mysterious disappearance with her friends. Their search takes them to an abandoned visitors’ center. There, each one of them is brutally murdered, only to wake up and find themselves living the evening all over again.

Temple of Geek spoke with Ji-Young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, and Odessa A’zion about their roles.

Familiarity of the Video Game Franchise Prior to Filming

We ask Ji-Young Yoo, Odessa A’zion, and Belmont Cameli about whether or not they were familiar with the “Until Dawn” games before being cast for their respective roles.

Ji-Young Yoo says:

I’m not a huge horror person. I don’t love being scared. And I play very few video games. I really didn’t know, but as soon as I started to speak with my friends…I have a couple of friends who are video game designers. They pretty much freaked out. So, I got a flurry of texts from a lot of very excited people once I was cast and it was announced.

Odessa A’Zion says:

My middle school best friend is a gamer. So, she was, I mean, into all the games. I feel like when Until Dawn came out…in 2015, so it’s a newer but kind of immediate classic, like everyone was obsessed with it. [It’s] really cool. I feel like [it was] kind of one of the first games that felt like a movie while you were playing it, which is really cool. So yeah, I was familiar with it, and I love horror.

Belmont Cameli says:

I knew about Until Dawn when it came out. I’m not a big gamer myself, but I knew about its presence in the landscape. And so, when I first read the script, I knew it was a big deal. And when I got the part, kind of the same as Ji-Young, like my friends started texting me about, like, what endings they got. It was very exciting…my buddies who were in the PlayStation community were stoked about it. So yeah, we got to get a lot more acquainted with it later on. When I first read it, I was like, ‘Oh, this is…I know what this is!’

Bringing the Characters of “Until Dawn” to Life

Breathing life into characters on screen looks different for each actor. However, in this film, the consensus seems to be that the situations are scary enough that there is a lot less acting than they expected.

Cameli, who plays Abe, says:

You know, it’s funny because backstory-wise, you know, you build that out in your own process. Abe being kind of on the periphery of this group was a very fun element to play in that he doesn’t have the shared history with the rest of the cast. So, you know, that kind of comes with your own breath.

But, as far as performing in the film, you almost have to do less acting than you thought you would because the situations that you’re put in are petrifying. Like, your heart is beating through your chest all day long. It’s like fight or flight. Like, that’s what we got paid to do, basically. So that was very easy. I didn’t have to call upon any extravagant technique for that.

Yoo plays Megan. She adds:

The only thing I would really add to that is, like, the camaraderie of the group, I think, is always very important to the beginning of a horror film. Understanding how the group functions, but…that’s not necessarily prep. It’s like relying what’s on the page, but also, we just got lucky that this is a great cast. And we all really got along so it was very easy to do scenes together. It was easy to create the natural chemistry.

A’zion, who plays Nina, says:

I’m not a massive prepper…I like to just go and feel it out. But that feels, for me personally, everybody has their own style and thing to do. And I respect all of it. For me, I like just going and like seeing what other people have to offer in the scene because, like, you don’t know what somebody else is going to do, and I like that. I like being surprised by my co-stars and hopefully surprising them back and just playing off of each other.

About “Until Dawn”

One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover (Ella Rubin) and her friends, in search of answers, head into the remote valley where she vanished. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer who horrifically murders them one by one. However, they wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the night after they are killed. Each time, the killer threat is different and more terrifying than the last. Their hopes dwindle. The group realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.

“Until Dawn” is coming to theaters on April 25, 2025.
