What is the moral of the story of “Avengers: Endgame”

Avengers Endgame is becoming a box office juggernaut. It has crossed the 2 billion dollar threshold, worldwide and that number will continue to rise. As well deserving as this is, there’s been something that has stuck with me throughout multiple viewings of the film. That is, the moral of the story.

For the last 11 years, we’ve seen the formation of, the falling apart of and the repair of the Avengers. We’ve laughed and cried. We’ve grown up and we’ve gotten to know these complex characters and after watching all of the movies within the MCU, I’ve finally come across the moral of the Avengers’ story. That’s to check on your strong friends.

We come to realize that Avengers: Endgame is the end of Tony Stark’s story. This is fitting because this entire universe began with Tony Stark. He was the catalyst that brought everything together. A recluse, a man who pushed everyone away from him found happiness and joy and built a family, both by blood and by friendship in his hero career. It was indeed his failures that brought out the most in his successes. The lesson we learned from the Tony Stark/Avengers story is to always check on your friends, especially those whom you perceive as the strongest. Those are the ones who may need it most.

You see this need for your strongest friends to be checked on several times throughout Avengers Endgame. Black Widow’s denial at knowing that there’s nothing she can do to change what happened no matter how hard she tried. Tony Stark leaving it all behind to fill a missing part of his life. Hawkeye, taking matters into his own hands and murdering those who he felt had no reason to be alive when so many innocents weren’t. To Captain America moderating support groups to help others. Then there is Thor, who dealt with his failure in a way that resonated most with me. He chose to drown it in alcohol.

Then the Avengers, the founding members of the MCU Avengers, split. They had been handed their worst defeat and didn’t know how to collectively deal with it, so they fell apart.

In life, we are met with challenges, big and small. No one person is perfect and we all need a support system should things fall apart. In all essence, we can all be called the Avengers in our respective circles.  The thing is that in order to remain a strong unit, we must check on each other in our times of need, especially those who you feel may not need it because they’re your strong friend.

You see this most in the most unlikely source, the Hulk. Who came to terms with his own insecurities and now lives in complete balance with himself. Hulk is truly the strongest. The point I’m making here is that every so often, check on your friends to make sure they’re doing alright. A simple “how are you” can make the most difference and it lets people know that someone out there cares about their mental and physical well-being. So with that said, take the advice that Avengers: Endgame was giving to you when you feel like it’s the end of the world and you’ve lost everything, your friends, your true friends will be there for you. Just make sure you’re always there for them as well.
