Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022

What to Expect from Star Wars Celebration 2022

It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan. In just one week, after being put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the biannual show returns to sunny Anaheim, CA, and promises to pull out all the stops.

Let’s look forward to what to expect from Star Wars Celebration 2022.

Potential spoilers ahead!

Video Games

As of the time this article was posted, there has not been any official announcement of a Star Wars games panel from any developer, save for the Star Wars: Hunters – Greatest Show in the Galaxy panel taking place Saturday, May 28th at 1:00 PM.

A team-based arena shooter à la OverwatchStar Wars: Hunters will be a free-to-play Nintendo Switch exclusive, where you can choose from a wide variety of colorful characters to battle it out on the planet Vespaara. There is no official release date, but keep your ears open for either an announcement for that, a demo, or the game itself dropping following the panel.

While there aren’t any other official games panels at this year’s Celebration, it’s still fun to speculate and generate hype for no reason other than generating hype. We know that there are currently 8 Star Wars games in development from different studios, so expect some information as the weekend goes on. As of right now, other than Hunters, they are:

  • Star Wars: Eclipse.
  • A remake of Knights of the Old Republic.
  • The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, rumored to be titled Survivor.
  • Two projects from Respawn Entertainment.
  • Amy Hennig’s untitled project.
  • Ubisoft’s open-world project.

If any more information comes out during the show, be sure to check back in at Temple of Geek for full coverage.

Streaming

If you’re a Star Wars fan, you undoubtedly subscribe to Disney+ and stay up to date on all the latest releases. This year is absolutely stacked with Star Wars content for the streaming platform, with more sure to be announced during the show. Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to release May 27th, but fans have so much more to look forward to. Tales of the Jedi, a new animated anthology featuring shorts from across the galaxy, is being revealed Saturday at 2:30 PM (if you’re attending the show, this will be held at the Celebration Stage).

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is also getting some love. On Sunday at 11:00 AM (The Celebration Stage), the Clone Wars continuation’s second season is getting a spotlight. I’m sure we’ll get at least a trailer, and hopefully a release date.

Notably absent from the panels list are showcases for the upcoming titles coming to Disney+ this year and beyond, including Ahsoka, Andor, The Mandalorion season 3, and The Acolyte. While I’m sure there will be some sort of announcements or trailers for these, it’s odd that shows this big aren’t getting the panel treatment.

Other possible projects we may receive details on are Taiki Waititi’s untitled film, the Rogue Squadron film from Patty Jenkins, and Rangers of the New Republic, a show still currently in development hell.

Disney Parks

While the Disney Parks’ Galaxy’s Edge expansion (colloquially known to some as “Star Wars Land”) is only just 3 years old, fans of Disneyland and Disney World are surely hungry for updates. Luckily, Star Wars Celebration 2022 has two panels dedicated to the theme park attraction. The 35 Year Anniversary of Star Tours is getting a spotlight. Galaxy’s Edge itself is also taking the stage in the form of a panel. This will showcase the land’s history, innovations, and, hopefully, its future attractions. Rise of the Resistance is the area’s most popular attraction, so hopefully Disney Imagineering will give fans a strong follow-up.

This event going to be MASSIVE. The things discussed in this article are just a fraction of what we may hear or see at the show. What do you expect to see at Star Wars Celebration 2022? Let us know!
