The Essential Items That Every Fan Should Pack For San Diego Comic Con

Posted by

San Diego Comic Con is less than 2 weeks away. If you have been to any convention, you should know what you may need to bring to have a good time. If you have never been to a convention, I have put together this list of items that I feel are essential for attending this or any con. You do not need to have any of these items to be at the con, but I can guarantee that they will make your experience a lot more enjoyable. Okay, enough babbling. Here are 7 items that I recommend you pack for San Diego Comic Con.

Sunscreen

Why is sunscreen on this list? San Diego Comic Con is in July which happens to be in the middle of Summer. You will be outside just as much as you will be inside. When you are outside standing under that blazing sun, you will be glad that you applied sunscreen. You can thank me later. 😉

Food and Drink

If you are willing to wait in the long, long lines and spend lots of cash for food and drink, then you can ignore this. Though, I do believe you might be like me and want to spend every dime and minute on the show floor. If that is the case, pack some snacks and water. Believe me, you will be thanking yourself later for the time and money you saved just by packing a couple of items.

Camera

This should be a no brainer and most people have a smart phone. You need a camera for SDCC. There is so much happening at the Con and you are going to want to capture the event for memories. Also, you never know you you may run into and it is great to have a camera at the ready for those quick photo opportunities that may arise. Speaking of opportunities…

Sharpies

Why do you need sharpies? Have you ever walked the convention floor and ran in a celebrity? Most of the time, you if you engage and ask nicely, you might be able to score an autograph from that celeb. Wouldn’t it be cool if you had a Sharpie with you? Also, I take my own with me because I like certain colors on certain pics. Sharpies are a must in SDCC.

A Bag

You are going to need this to carry your swag and other items. SDCC has merchandise all over the convention hall. You will not want to purchase an item and then have to carry it around with you. I usually take a backpack with me so I can carry around while keeping my hands free. No matter what bag you decide to bring, just remember that you HAVE a bag and leave it somewhere like I did one year. =(

Comfortable Shoes

I cannot stress the importance of good, comfortable shoes. You are going to be walking… EVERYWHERE!! You are going to be standing in lines, you are going to be climbing steps, you are going to walk from one end of the convention center to the other. You need good shoes. To give you an idea, in 2014 the exhibit hall was over 460,000 square feet. That is quite the distance to travel in flip flops. Word of advice, do not buy the shoes the day before the convention and wear them. You will regret that decision.

Cash

This is probably the single, most important item that you can have. When you go to SDCC, or any con, you are going to see swag that you want to pick up or celebrities that you want to get an autograph or photo with. It adds up really quickly. I cannot stress the fact that you want to start saving for a convention the minute you decide to go. An autograph could range from $50.00 to $200.00 and it adds up quick when you are collecting several.

SDCC is know for their convention exclusives and this year you will be shelling out a lot to get some of the items offered. Hasbro is releasing a set based on its revolution Comic Crossover that is priced at $99.99. There is also a six card Magic the Gathering Exclusive that will retail for $180.00. Bottom line, bring lots of cash to get what you want so you won’t regret missing that one item.

Wrap-up

There you have it. These are the essential items that I feel you should bring with you to the convention. There is so much to do and see at San Diego Comic Con that you will have an amazing time and these items will help give you an even better experience. Are there any items you feel are essential that I left off of this list? Let me know by commenting below.
