SEGA Forever

5 SEGA Genesis classics launched today on Google Play and the IOS App Store for free! This is all part of SEGA’s new way of getting their games in consumers hands. This new initiative is called SEGA Forever and it will release new games every month from nearly every SEGA console era for free. Here are some of the features that SEGA is promoting on their site:

  • Play free
  • Save your game progress
  • Leaderboard — compete with the world for high scores
  • Controller support — fully integrated wireless Bluetooth controller support
  • Offline play
  • Games released every month; download them all!

The Details

Now how are they able to give away their library of games for free you ask? They are not really free. Each game has ads attached to each. Ads play upon when the game is launched, and any time you are on the menu. It appears you can get the games ad free by paying a $1.99 fee to remove from each game. This is not that big of a deal since it doesn’t appear that the ads actually interfere with game-play (I am judging this based off a a 5 minute run through I had with Phantasy Star II).

As of this writing, I am downloading all 5 games that have been released today. Those games are Sonic The Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Phantasy Star II, Kid Chameleon, and Comix Zone. If SEGA holds true to their promise of releasing nearly every game in their library for free over the coming months, this will be a very successful program for them. Gamer’s all over the world will love to have access to this library in their pockets.

What games are you hoping they release next? What did you download already? Do you think this is a good play by the company? I want to know, sound off by commenting below and lets start a conversation.
