Cyberpunk TCG from WeirdCo.

Cyberpunk TCG: Interview With the Creators

The Cyberpunk trading card game (TCG) was revealed by IGN in December of last year. It has since garnered significant attention from not only the TCG and tabletop communities, but fans of other Cyberpunk 2077 media. Created by WeirdCo with full support from CD Projekt Red, the game offers a unique take on TCG gameplay. Players will face off using Night City Legends, using iconic characters from both the video game and the anime. You’ll be able to craft decks with characters like Jackie Wells, Goro Takemura, and Lucy.

Deckbuilding is based on any of the available four colors, and you’ll use Gig dice to rack up your Street Cred to win. Like other TCGs, the Cyberpunk TCG uses a unique resource system to play the cards in your hand. By “selling” cards in your hand for Eddies, you can pay higher costs and play more expensive cards later on.

I recently had the opportunity to do a virtual interview via email with some of the game’s creators. We chatted about the game’s design, how the Eddie system came to be, and how they plan to subvert supply issues plaguing other TCGs. Read on for some of their insights and learn how to get involved with the crowdfunding campaign.

“Like in the game, you sell cyberwear, weapons, and other tech. Debating between installing tech and protecting humanity is a core part of the Cyberpunk experience”

Temple of Geek: Could you explain the 40-50 card deck building parameters? Why not just a set number like exactly 40 or exactly 50? Was balance a concern?

Richard Zapp, Head of Game Design: 40 card decks allow for a more accessible game; less copies to buy to complete your deck. Some deckbuilders find that number a little restrictive though, so we offered a range so that players could express themselves and fit all their favorite cards into it.

Temple of Geek: The selling and Eddie mechanics are a pretty unique resource system compared to other TCGs, how did the team arrive at this system? Were there other versions of how resources worked that didn’t quite pan out during the design period?

Zapp: The team explored a lot of different systems, and we landed on the system that we found to be the most on-brand. Like in the game, you sell cyberwear, weapons, and other tech. Debating between installing tech and protecting humanity is a core part of the Cyberpunk experience, and we hope to represent that through our selling and Eddie system.

Temple of Geek: What sort of local events can fans expect at their LGS’s? Will there be larger-scale competitive events?

Elliot Cook, Co-founder and President of WeirdCo: Of course there will be! We plan to have something that celebrates every level of fandom of Cyberpunk!

Temple of Geek: Can fans expect to be able to get a hands-on demo for the Cyberpunk TCG at any upcoming conventions, such as San Diego Comic-Con or a PAX?

Cook: You will see us actually next month in a few different places!

“Our Organized Play system is going to blow folks away.”

Temple of Geek: Some recent TCGs are seeing supply issues and problems with bots on their online storefronts. Is there a plan in place to help ensure that fans are able to get their hands on the game stress free?

Cook: This is exactly why we are doing a Kickstarter – for the fans who want to get their hands on product. We think this is the most empathetic way to ensure that the fans who have been with us from the start are prioritized, those 60k+ users in Discord, the over 150k signups we had for our free Lucy card. They are who we want to make sure are taken care of and we are very vocal about this. You can read more on our stance here.

Temple of Geek: What’s something you’re personally excited for fans to see or do when the Cyberpunk TCG comes out?

Cook: Our Organized Play system is going to blow folks away. At our core of WeirdCo we think in two ways – driving the human connection and celebrating the Cyberpunk IP – everywhere it has been and everywhere it is going. CD Projekt Red has really been amazing – everything we do is a true collaboration, but the OP is where they have REALLY stepped up. They are so passionate on where our OP goes and have helped in ways you can’t imagine. That will be a real treat for not just players, but fans of the IP, for a long, long time.

The Cyberpunk TCG Kickstarter campaign launches March 17, 2026 at 9AM PT. Fans who follow and back the campaign will receive a free Foil Nova Lucyna Kushinada card.
