‘Go For It, Nakamura-kun!!” is a Delightful Must-Watch BL RomCom

Spring is here, and love is in the air! Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! is coming to Crunchyroll April 1st, and episode one offers a delightfully over-the-top setup for an adorable, queer high school love story.

Love at first sight is no myth, according to our leading 15-year old high-school lead, Okuto Nakamura. Whenever his dreamy classmate Aiki Hirose enters the room, his heart skips a beat. However, Nakamura has yet to actually speak to him. That all changes in an awkwardly charming first episode.

“Go For It, Nakamura-kun!!” Episode 1 Sets the Scene for an Adorably Good Time

Go for It, Nakamura-kun!! Episode One sets the scene for an adorably good time for the rest of the season. The teenage puppy-love portrayal is awkward and fun, with big, absurd animation moments that take the humor to the next level. While it is a Boys’ Love (BL) series, the gay representation is natural and refreshing, and it plays perfectly into the stereotypical high school love tropes we see in other shoujo and slice-of-life series.

The Right Voice Actor Makes a Difference

Chiaki Kobayashi is the Japanese voice of Nakamura, the klutz who just cannot keep it together around his crush. Kobayashi is known for playing characters such as Langa Hasegawa (Sk8 The Infinity), Yoshiki Tsujinaka (The Summer Hikaru Died), and Kiyoshi Adachi (Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!) No stranger to the BL genre, Kobyashi is the perfect fit to bring Nakamura-kun to life. He does a phenomenal job switching from over-confident to insecure in a matter of seconds, making this disaster of a character even more loveable.

Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! is a must-watch this spring anime season. Based on this first episode alone, the series is looking to be a romantic comedy you won’t want to miss.
