The galaxy far, far away got a whole lot bigger today at New York Comic Con. Moderated by Lucasfilm Publishing’s Creative Director Michael Siglain, the jam-packed “Lucasfilm Publishing: Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away…” panel brought together an all-star lineup of authors, creators, and artists. Featuring behind-the-scenes insights from across the Star Wars eras, the panel delivered major announcements for 2027. The panel highlighted upcoming cinematic tie-ins, massive 50th-anniversary celebrations for A New Hope, brand-new prose, and a first look at exciting comic variants.

Princess Leia Returns in a New YA Novel

Fans of high-stakes Rebel adventures have a lot to celebrate: a brand-new Young Adult novel centered on Princess Leia written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray was officially announced. Star Wars: Starfighter Tie-In Wave Revealed

With massive anticipation building for the upcoming Shawn Levy-directed and Ryan Gosling-starring film Star Wars: Starfighter, Lucasfilm Publishing announced an expansive wave of tie-in literature scheduled to release ahead of and alongside the movie in 2027. Fans can look forward to:

Expanded Novelization: Featuring scenes not seen on screen (releasing June 22, 2027).

Visual Dictionary & Art Books: Authored by Pablo Hidalgo alongside the official Art of Coloring: Star Wars: Starfighter.

Young Reader & Adventure Books: Including Star Wars: Starfighter – Rise and Reward, Outer Rim Outcasts, Rock Pirate Adventures, Level 2 and Level 3 Readers, and the Rumble with the Rock Pirate Little Golden Book.

Celebrating 50 Years of A New Hope & Marvel’s “Hope Assembles” Variant Covers

As the franchise marches toward the monumental 50th anniversary, a wave of commemorative projects was unveiled:

Star Wars: A Celebration by Pablo Hidalgo (DK Publishing): An essential history chronicling how Star Wars grew from a single film into a global cultural engine.

New Formats: Including Star Wars: A New Hope (The Manga), a complete script book of the complete screenplay by Insight Editions, and a playful Star Wars: A New Hope: The Official Funko POP! Coloring Book.

Marvel Crossover Variant Reveals: The panel gave fans a thrilling look at upcoming variant covers for Star Wars / Marvel: Hope Assembles, the landmark five-issue crossover event written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez that brings the Marvel Universe and Star Wars face-to-face.

Dungeons & Dragons Meets Star Wars

In one of the most surprising crossover announcements of the convention, Wizards of the Coast revealed Dungeons & Dragons | Star Wars: Tyro Squadron Adventures. Tied to the Star Wars: Season of Rebellion tabletop roleplaying game ecosystem, this new book comes alongside a forthcoming D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book, which will allow players to fly daring missions and craft their own unique Rebel stories.

Creator Insights: Ahmed Best Highlights Jar Jar and Kelleran Beq

The panel featured lively discussions from the creative minds driving the publishing slate, highlighted by Ahmed Best taking the stage to talk about his gripping Star Wars: Jar Jar comic series. Best discussed how the book also stars his fan-favorite live-action character from Jedi Temple Challenge, Kelleran Beq, who bridges eras to show Jar Jar firsthand how his work and words as a Senator impacted the wider galaxy. To the delight of the room, attendees were treated to a free copy of Jar Jar #1 right at the panel!

Additional creators, including Dr. Chris Kempshall, Kristin Baver, Kiersten White, Will Sliney, Jordan Hembrough, and Matthew Reinhart, shared previews of upcoming illustrated adventures, historical deep dives, and pop-up books.
