Cosplayer, historical costume aficionado keeps geek style simple

If you already follow Emilee Shield (@ourshieldmaiden) on Instagram, you’re familiar with the dazzling cosplays she creates on a budget. She’s also known for her passion for historical costuming. But today we’re taking a look at Emilee’s everyday geek fashion, from comfy outfits featuring tees and geeky quotes to fun casual cosplays. A fan of Disney, Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Who, Merlin, and D&D, she keeps her style simple with special pops of geekery.

What are your diehard fandoms?

The fandoms that make me the most excited are Star Trek, Disney, Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, and Merlin. Those were a lot of my early fandoms and they’ll just always be close to my heart.

How would you describe your personal geek style?

I really enjoy subtle geek fashion, which is one of the things that made me love Jordandene. I’m a big fan of quotes on my merch, as a writer, and I like little nods to nerdom because most of my wardrobe is black or dark clothing. I like to keep things simple with one or two special outfit items that pop.

What favorite geek fashion items can be found in your closet?

I have some awesome geeky skirts and a Disney Beauty and the Beast stained-glass one that is my absolute favorite. I also love small jewelry that points to my fandoms! I definitely own Mickey Mouse earrings and I also have an Outlander charm bracelet that one of my friends gave me that I absolutely LOVE.

Describe your go-to geeky outfit.

Most of the time I wear leggings and oversized or cropped sweatshirts/oversized shoes. I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to day-to-day wear. It’s always been kind of funny to me since I love super busy and complex style when it comes to my cosplays.

Where do you find yourself searching or shopping the most for your geek fashion needs?

I shop Jordandene, Horns of Odin, Hot Topic, and any shop that sells D&D merch.

Feel free to shout out any personal geeky passions, projects, or business endeavors:

Current passion projects are my 12 Months of Corsetry personal challenge and my Spring Sew-Along (#oursewalong). Both can be found on Instagram (@ourshieldmaiden)!

We’re about to wrap up the Spring Sew-Along but we’ll be back in June 2021 for the Summer Sew-Along (which will be focused on helping beginners!).
