Retro Rebel Podcast is hosted by Amanda Fox and Stacy Bishop. Each week they take a deep dive into the gaming industry and discuss news stories, the current games they are playing as well as the topic of the week. Today we’re going to talk about all the dumb habits we have because of video game mechanics that would be silly in real life.

Intro Music – Final Impasse By Ground is Lava
What we’re playing
Amanda- I’ve been playing The Walking Dead (Final Season) and streaming it immersively on Twitch.tv/darqueace — it is a bit harder than previous games because of the option to stun or kill walkers; this has a direct impact on if you’ll get swarmed and you need to mix these things up but sometimes in a panic, it’s hard to do so.
Gaming news
Amazon and Hue – For the new upcoming amazon MMO, Amazon is creating bundles with Hue for immersive lighting experiences. Is this the future of gaming peripherals?
Epic wins against apple – Apple can no longer prohibit publishers from linking to 3rd party payment services, court rules. However, the court did not find them guilty of running a monopoly.
Dumb things we do because of video game mechanics
If you were really a big, buff hero – you probably wouldn’t do some of the things that we’ve all become accustomed to (bunny hop running anyone) just because of how game mechanics and targeting systems work in games. So, today we’re going to talk about all the dumb habits we have because of mechanics that would be silly in real life.
Amanda –
- I always try to clear all the rooms before going forward assuming I’ll get locked out.
- I try to break any pots and boxes for loot
- In a multiplayer shooter, I will crawl in cover and wait but when discovered its hop time
- Early in a game, I pick up everything because I’m poor and gold is gold
- If I hear a change in the music I save if I can
- If I REALLY don’t like how a choice played out, I’ll reload an earlier save
- If I have emotions about a character I assume they’re going to die
