“We Always Get Up”
Fans of Charlie Cox and his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil from the Netflix series have long awaited his return on screen. Charlie Cox played the “Man Without Fear” in 3 seasons on the streaming service including a starring role in Marvel’s The Defenders. The Daredevil series debuted in April of 2015 until October of 2019 when an abrupt and shocking announcement was made that Netflix canceled the series. The announcement left many fans disappointed and upset. Not allowing themselves to be knocked down, fans took a cue from one of the ideals of the series and basically said:
“We always get up.” — Skylar Gaertner as Young Matt Murdock
The fans responded appropriately and spawned the famous #SaveDaredevil trend and movement across social media. The fan website, SaveDaredevil.com launched an online petition to address Netflix Management, Disney, Marvel Studios, and even Kevin Feige himself in hopes to have the original cast and crew return to Disney/Marvel Studios. To this day, the petition has garnered 429,790 signatures on the public campaign site, Change.org.
For now, there is no official confirmation about any of the Marvel Netflix TV series cast returning on screen. If they do, then it will be a waiting game to see what stories will be told about those characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For now, Daredevil fans can celebrate knowing that Charlie Cox has been officially cast as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.
