The beloved Rocinante has had an adventurous and bumpy flight across our television screens. After a cancellation following the three-season run on Syfy, an emotional fan campaign, and two more seasons thanks to its new home, Prime Video, The Expanse is entering its sixth and final season. In only six episodes, the sci-fi show delivers its big finale – so strap into your crash couches; here comes the juice.

From the discovery of the Protomolecule, the opening of the Ring Gates, the diaspora of the human race across thirteen hundred new worlds, to the near destruction of Earth – the characters in the fast-paced adventure have witnessed the universe change around them in mind-blowing plot twists. But even after countless fights, the crew of the Roci is here to do the right thing and deal with the aftermath of the terrorist attacks that crippled the Earth.

The Expanse Season 6

In typical Expanse fashion, season 6 kicks off with a bang that will excite book fans in particular as we finally get a glimpse at what most of us have been waiting for. As usual, the futuristic adventure is action-packed, thrilling, and true eye candy for anyone who loves to look at space ships and stations. The first episode, titled Strange Dogs, will once again have you at the edge of your seat, especially if you haven’t read the books, as the Roci crew takes on Marco Inaros. While the Belter terrorist is certainly not the best villain the series of nine books have to offer, it is a dangerous one who has personal ties to one of the main characters. Smart, opportunistic, and impulsive, he isn’t deserving of the Father of the Year award, but he is a worthy match for our beloved characters and he has the means to actually win the war. From what we have seen in the previous season, we can already suspect that Marco Inaros will not be easy to beat.

Yet the first episode of the new season isn’t just guns and space battles. After the loss of their friend and pilot, Alex Kamal, who suffered a stroke at the end of the previous season, the crew of our favourite warship has a lot of emotional baggage to deal with, too. On top of that, Amos’s decision to welcome Clarissa Mao into the crew isn’t exactly greeted with excitement by everyone on board. Between guilt, anger, and grief, the sixth season of The Expanse promises to be an adventure as well as an emotional journey.

Probably one of the most interesting characters of this season is Naomi’s son, Filip, who was introduced during season five. Hidden from his mother as a child and raised by Marco and his fellow Belters, Filip was supposed to step into his father’s shoes. Yet Filip is far from being the ruthless terrorist his father would like him to be as he has already shown remorse, uncertainty, and a great deal of teenage angst in the previous season. In the upcoming six episodes, Filip will have to confront his conscience and decide which side he is truly on. And from what we have seen so far, it is not going to be an easy decision.

Strange Dogs continues the tradition that The Expanse has established over the last five seasons and delivers exciting space battles, emotional turmoil, alien mysteries, and unforeseeable plot twists that will leave you staring at your screen in awe. If you’re even remotely interested in science fiction and you still haven’t checked out The Expanse, it is high time you do so because it is still one of the best shows television has to offer.
