We are breaking down how to put together a Nifty cosplay from Prime Video’s hit animated musical series, Hazbin Hotel. This cosplay guide will focus on this little stabby character’s look from the Prime Video series rather than the YouTube pilot episode, as they vary slightly.
Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie Morningstar, the Princess of Hell and daughter of Lucifer, as she works to create a place where demons can redeem themselves. Angels exterminate demons once per year, and Charlie’s goal is to save her people. The Hazbin Hotel is where these demons stay if they choose to seek redemption.
Putting Together a Nifty Cosplay
Nifty is the Hazbin Hotel maid. She has a wild personality and tends to say the most out-of-pocket things that make the other demons slightly terrified of her. So, when cosplaying this wild demon maid, be sure to channel your inner gremlin!
One of Nifty’s defining physical traits is her singular eye that takes up most of her face. Because we, as humans, do not have a large eye in the middle of our faces, this part can be a little tricky.
One option would be to style her wig to cover one eye. Another option is to create one large eye, almost like a mask, that covers most of your face. If you go this route, then be sure to use breathable materials as well as something you can see through. A third option is to use a pair of cyclops sunglasses in a similar color to her orange and red eye.
Outfit and Wig
Nifty’s outfit in the 2024 series is pretty simple. She wears a red dress that has slightly puffed sleeves with a white ruffled apron over it. It gives off 1950’s vibes, and in some shots, you can see the poodle on the bottom portion of the dress.
In order for you to have the dress sit similar to the way it is on Nifty, you can add a petticoat underneath a basic red dress. Adding the poodle decal can be done with either iron-on vinyl with a Cricut or iron-on transfer printer paper. Then, throw on a black neck scarf, a black piece of fabric around the waist, and add some fake blood onto the apron! (Note: fake blood can leave stains, so if you’d like to avoid that, then acrylic paint or fabric cut-out shapes will work.)
Also, there are pre-made cosplays available for Nifty on Amazon. These are always great options as long as you are mindful of shipping times.
Nifty’s hair is a fiery red bob-style with a small orange spot in her bangs. As far as wigs go, the best bet is to find a base in the closest color to the red. A short, bob-length wig with bangs will work nicely. Then, use heating tools and plenty of Got2B gel and hairspray to keep the style in place.
Makeup and Props
Similar to Charlie and Lucifer Morningstar, Nifty also has a white face with bright red cheeks. In order to create this look, face paint is the way to go. Mehron is a great brand for face paint. Classic white will do, as it will not require any mixing with any other colors or shades. Using the Mehron CreamBlend Stick in bright red might be the easiest way to create the circular shape on Nifty’s cheeks. You will also need sponges for blending the face paint. Basic beauty blending sponges will do the trick.
Nifty has black lips. There are plenty of black lipstick options that will work nicely. She also has very defined eyelashes. However, if you plan on covering your face with a giant eye or sunglasses, then you do not need to worry about the eye makeup. Otherwise, lay on the eyeliner and mascara nice and thick!
Once the makeup is applied, use setting powder to make sure everything stays in place for prolonged periods of time.
Finally, the Nifty cosplay would not be complete without her knife. She uses it to destroy the bugs that crawl through the hotel as well as threaten anyone who crosses her or her friends. Charlie said to stab, so she stabs!
