Mattel’s Powerhouse Brands Take Center Stage at the 10th Annual Her Universe Fashion Show. Celebrating both 65 Years of Barbie and 35 Years of Polly Pocket. Nearing its 80th anniversary, Mattel teams up with Her Universe to showcase decades of fashion, innovation, and geek couture at the iconic Her Universe Fashion Show. The show, held on July 25th at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), promises a vibrant celebration of legendary Mattel brands, including Hot Wheels, UNO, and Magic 8 Ball, through fashion and giveaways.
Since 2014, the Her Universe Fashion Show has been a platform for talented designers to showcase their creativity. This year, the stakes are even higher, with two designers winning the ultimate prize: the opportunity to create a special fashion collection with Her Universe. One winner will be chosen by the audience, and another by a panel of expert judges.
Mattel will transform the lobby into an immersive experience celebrating 35 years of Polly Pocket
Beyond the fashion show, Mattel will transform the lobby into an immersive experience that celebrates 35 years of Polly Pocket. The exhibit will be filled with nostalgic charm, innovative displays, and photo opportunities. And it will pay homage to Polly Pocket’s legacy of making the ordinary extraordinary.
Meredith Norrie, Vice President of Global Licensing and Consumer Products at Mattel, shared her enthusiasm about partnering with Her Universe to showcase unique designer interpretations of Mattel’s intellectual property. She also emphasized Mattel’s dedication to fostering community and creativity through shared passions.
Coincidentally, the highly anticipated Polly Pocket movie is currently in development with no official release date. Directed by Lena Dunham and starring Lily Collins as Polly Pocket, the film promises a “fun, modern way” to reintroduce Polly to the world. The story will center around the friendship between a young girl and a pocket-sized woman, exploring what happens when a small person encounters a big world. Fans are eagerly awaiting potential updates at SDCC.
Ashley Eckstein and Michael James Scott will host the 10th annual Her Universe Fashion Show
Hosts Ashley Eckstein and Michael James Scott will lead an evening dedicated to Mattel’s nearly 80 years of innovation and imagination. Audiences can expect to be enthralled by Eckstein’s cutting-edge couture looks. And to be surprised by unforgettable moments throughout the show. Eckstein’s impact on the fandom is immense, and this show is her gift to fans – a unique way to engage with the community. Unlike any other SDCC event, it offers opportunities for audience participation, from walking the catwalk during intermission to voting for the audience winner. Indeed, the Her Universe Fashion Show is truly a one-of-a-kind spectacle. Additionally, award-winning director Jeremy Merrifield joins the celebration as the show’s director.
Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka in Star Wars and founder of Her Universe) and returning co-host Michael James Scott (Broadway star of Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, and Something Rotten) will undoubtedly captivate the audience. Last year Eckstein stunned with a couture design merging technology and fashion, featuring flexible OLED screens displaying Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars content. Meanwhile, Michael James Scott enchanted the crowd with custom-made couture looks and show-stopping performances.
The Her Universe Fashion Show aspires to create a platform for aspiring designers to showcase their passion for pop culture-inspired fashion. Ten years later, the show has become a cornerstone event at San Diego Comic-Con. “It has wildly exceeded my expectations,” Eckstein shares. “I never expected the show to become what it is today. It’s taken on a life of its own.”
