Today, Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. revealed the DAN DA DAN English dub voice actors for the lead characters, Momo and Okarun. Abby Trott (Demon Slayer, My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999) and A.J. Beckles (Tokyo Revengers, Bungo Stray Dogs) will be playing the leads, respectively. Also, Trott and Beckles will be in attendance at the panel and world premiere of the highly anticipated new hit anime’s English language dub, hosted on the Main Stage at Anime NYC on August 24th.
Synopsis of the DAN DA DAN Series
DAN DA DAN follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult freak. The two of them start talking after Momo rescues Okarun from getting bullied. However, an argument ensues between them. Momo believes in ghosts
but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. To make the mutual deniers believe in each other, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for its UFO sightings. In the meantime, Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. In each place, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that transcends comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power. Also, Okarun gains the power of a curse to challenge the paranormal forces!
DAN DA DAN is a popular manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, serialized in Shueisha’s manga magazine application “Shonen Jump Plus.” The series boasts a a total circulation of 3.2 million copies and over 440 million views.
DAN DA DAN English Dub Voice Actors Revealed for the Leads
Abby Trott is playing the role of Momo in DAN DA DAN’s English dub. She is best known for portraying Nezuko in Demon Slayer, Annette in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Spiral in X-Men ’97, and singing the English version of “Lifelight,” the theme for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Abby is no stranger to the anime space. Some of her other roles include Shizuka Mikazuki in ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Machi in Hunter X Hunter, and Akane in My Love Story with Yamada-kun at LVL 999.
Trott teased:
“You are not ready for DAN DA DAN. As soon as I saw a clip of Science SARU’s immaculate animation, I knew this was something special. This show is absolutely electric. It’s hilarious, disturbing, beautiful, weird, dramatic, and raw – and I’m so excited to be voicing Momo in the animated telling of this EPIC manga! Ready or not…”
A.J. Beckles is joining Abby and playing the role of Okarun. He first hopped into the professional voice acting scene by voicing Takemichi Hanagaki in Tokyo Revengers and Shiki Tademaru in Kemono Jihen. His notability grew further by playing Michizou Tachihara in Bungo Stray Dogs, Kaname Tosen in Bleach, and Jaxon in Beyblade X.
Beckles shared:
“Getting to be a part of DAN DA DAN in any way is a dream come true. I’ve been a fan of the manga for a couple of years now. Hanae-san is an incredible actor! The honor of actually being able to play his counterpart as Okarun in the dub was something I never could have imagined being granted to me! Tatsu-san is a master of his craft, and I truly think this is one of those roles/stories that only comes around only once or twice in someone’s life and I am treating it with the utmost respect and care because of that. I can’t wait to show everyone my take on this awkward fellow, and I want to assure every fan that’s been waiting for this adaptation that they have nothing at all to worry about. DAN DA DAN Premieres Coming Soon!
Fans attending the Anime NYC panel will be the first in the world to view the first episode of the series’ English Dub on August 24th. Join kensuke ushio (music), Voice Actors Shion Wakayama & Abby Trott (Momo), and Natsuki Hanae & A.J. Beckles (Okarun); and MBS producer Hiroyuki Aoi for the DAN DA DAN English DUB premiere! This panel is happening on the Main Stage at the event.
Also, the worldwide premiere of the series is coming to theaters on September 13th! Fans will have the opportunity to watch the first three episodes on the big screen in DAN DA DAN: First Encounter in North America from GKIDS. Furthermore, the theatrical premiere screenings will also feature an exclusive interview with Yukinobu Tatsu and Shihei Lin, the author and editor of the original manga, Fuga Yamashiro, Director of the upcoming anime series, and Shion Wakayama and Natsuki Hanae, the voice actors for the leads Momo and Okarun respectively.
