Anime NYC 2024 was filled with unforgettable moments. One of the standout highlights was the U.S. debut of the band Creepy Nuts. The duo, who gained international recognition for their hit song “Bling Bang Bang,” featured as the opening theme for the anime Mashle, as well as for Call of the Night, performed an electrifying concert on Friday night, August 23rd. Temple of Geek attended this remarkable performance firsthand. We sat down with Creepy Nuts during Anime NYC for an exclusive interview to discuss their music.
Interview with Creepy Nuts duo at Anime NYC
Given the eclectic nature of their sound and style, we asked the band: How do you navigate the challenges of staying true to your own style while also adapting to the changing tastes and expectations of your audience?
DJ Matsunaga responded thoughtfully:
“What the audience wants and trying to guess that is a direction that is really difficult to reach. There’s no real destination in that way of thinking. I want to create music that I personally enjoy, and I want to enjoy the music. So, I really don’t like to think about outside influences beyond what I find fulfilling musically. I prefer to stay true to myself.”
R-Shitei added:
“Whenever I think something is going to be a hit, it usually ends up just being okay. But when I don’t expect anything, it feels more natural, and that’s when we get the best feedback from the audience. I’ve decided that it’s not worth overthinking it.”
Both members were candid and straightforward in their answers, displaying not only their authenticity as artists, but also a great sense of humor.
